I found cleaning after BP to be very easy. Try Windex multi-surface with vinegar. It works very well in my Sharps rifles. 2 Quote

Black powder cleans up very easily with Windex multi surface with vinegar, I love Pedersoli rifles and have the Quigley model 1874 in 45-70, extremely accurate rifle, OP , that’s a beauty you have and looks like you are ready to go!! I was cleaning wit standard windex and some soapy patches. What I disliked was the debris that gets everywhere else that very difficult to remove. Quote

What bullet alloy and lube did you use? What's the details of your BP load? Quote

irish ike, SASS #43615 Posted June 11 Posted June 11 Federal match grade large pistol primers. newspaper wad over primer, 20" drop,538 grain Paul Jones538 grain Paul Jones Creedmore with 64.5 grains of Swiss SFFG, I hand cast with 20:1 lead. Weigh every round and separate to groups of same weight. 1/16" compression, so first driving band has to be pushed into rifling, use a lever to push round in, no crimp, no case resizing Starline brass cut to length, and brass annealed the length of the bullet. Land Run, and a few others, in their Long Range Side Matches, have a Big Bore Single Shot Smokeless, and a Big Bore Single Shot Black Powder. They wouldn't let me use my black powder loads in the smokeless category. Other matches follow the SASS Shooters' Handbook which states that any powder type can be used in all Long Range side matches, except Buffalo Gun, which must be shot with black powder. 2 Quote

Some have categories specifically for smokeless powders. If I shoot those categories, I have to shoot the category with one powder type, then wipe the barrel clean and change the sight settings for the next category (or use a completely different gun). I'd rather get my gun optimized for a black powder load and use it all day. Also, once I was in a tie breaker shoot off in the smokeless category and ran out of smokeless ammo, yet had half a box of black powder loads they wouldn't let me use. Quote
