Is it an Uberti? If so, go to your local hardware store and get a 5 mm × 0.8 mm set screw about 1/4 inch long. Install it with Loctite 222, that is the low strength. It will allow you to remove it later without damaging the screw.

Why plug it? I just removed mine. My wife’s 73 has had it removed for over 15 years, it’s not trapping or letting dirt in.

Chicago screw and a piece of leather or rubber to take up the space. I cut down a rubber wiring grommet.

I left mine out, always figured there had to be a way to turn it into a pez dispenser or something.
