I am in the market for an 1873 in 357/38. I am looking at Taylor Rifles. What exactly is Taylor Tuned?

For what it’s worth I have two Taylor Tuned pistols and absolutely love them. They are very very smooth and shoot amazing.

A friend of mine has an 1873 that was Taylor Tuned, it is super slick and smooth.

While Taylor tuned is much better than a std rifle, I would suggest stepping up to a Taylor Comanchero which is A Taylor tuned rifle that is factory short stroked and further tuned.  i had BOTH And The Comanchero is significantly better than just the Taylor tuned version.

My recommendation for Uberti ‘73’s is to just order one straight from Cody Conagher. He backs his work 100% and has probably done more rifles than all the other smiths combined over the last 25 years. Not the shortest stroke on the market but there’s a couple of shoooters in the game that shoot his rifles that don’t give up anything to anyone in the game on rifle speed.

the OP specifically asked about Taylor Tuned which implies he wants to buy a new rifle with a full warranty.  My response was not to make that mistake and buy the Comanchero.

Your point is very pertinent though!  If were starting over, I would buy one already slicked up from a reputable COWBOY smith vs any factory gun.

I learned the hard way how much $$/time one can waste shipping guns to/fro gun smiths. If one isn’t within reasonable driving distance.

I think the way to go is to buy one stock and then have a local cowboy gunsmith do the SS and slick it up. Just MHO

The OP is in Honolulu Hawaii, he may not have any local cowboy gunsmiths there

Absolutely.  Cody does excellent work.  I have owned and sold a many Codymatic 73.

I suspect Cody still does a lot of the  "smithing" for Taylor.

I purchased a Taylor’s Comanchero short rifle in 357 and found it to usable right out of the box. Short stroked and much smoother than a stock rifle. You can buy a smoother rifle with a shorter stroke, better sights and easier loading but you will pay for every feature.
