I quit drinking long time ago.

When I was drinking, I occasionally got drunk. I do not recall ever having a hangover.

That is probably why I never tried the time tested hangover remedy "the hair of the dog that bit you".

Does it work? If you have a hangover, will taking a drink make the pain go away?

It might, never done it. Had a really bad hangover when I was 19. My hangover solution from that day forward was to not drink that much in the first place. Did have some champagne a couple times at Sunday brunches, really kind of killed the rest of the day.

It doesn't work. The best thing I ever did about it was to get up early enough that a hangover hadn't hit yet, and keep on drinking, slowing down as the day goes on. That's the weekend solution.

Going to work was to down about 4 Extra Strength Tylenol. Of course the last time I did THAT was the same day they started reporting about that woman that poisoned her husband with some. I heard that and just thought "Oh well, if I die it will hurt less."

As told to me by my son who was a paramedic & fireman paramedic before he became a fire captain.  When he was a paramedic for a county contracted EMS he told me the paramedics hangover cure was O2 & IV.  Everything they needed was in their bus.

As a former Army medic, I will neither confirm nor deny the above. However, for those without access to IVs, Gatorade or other fluid and electrolyte replacement drinks are a tremendous help.

I tried “ hair of the dog” for a hangover once a long time ago. It didn’t work, in fact it made it worse. Lots of water or electrolytes and aspirin seemed to help the nasty headache!

Stay hydrated to start and you’ll avoid hangovers.

When I was in the Navy my shop had a pilots O2 mask for testing and troubleshooting  radio/ICS grips. Guys and gals with hangovers would want to check it out for a little O2 therapy.

Nobody said anything unless you went out to a plane after the LOX was serviced.

i have no idea - never used that even back when i had a hangover which was seldom and limited to the late 60s early 70s - so rare oi only recall a couple select moments - taught me well

Doc Ward's advice is sound, for reasons given, and JD Daily echoes the experience of a volunteer squad back home when they went Paramedic.
Of a sudden they were using considerably more oxygen than had been planned, and IV bags were less than inventory.

I got a better idea, don’t drink at all or if you do take it easy!

All "hair of the dog" does is get you sort of redrunk, numb you a little,  and draw out the recovery process.

I found that matching drinks 🍸  with a glass of water between them,  then a quart of water and some aspirin or acetaminophen before going to sleep helped to mitigate the after effects.

But I'm drinking so little now that one serving of alcoholic beverage makes me feel like 3 in an hour did in my 20s.

We buy it mostly for cooking.  I've found that gin, with its hint of juniper berries, really enhances pork and chicken dishes...deglaze the pan with it for sauces. Tequila for beef.

I went to dinner last night with a couple of neighbors. I had one beer. Of course I drove but I wouldn’t have anymore if I didn’t. I’m a real lightweight with alcohol.

I'd say so, though I'm not nearly as busy as you seem to be. I go to the gym three days a week, take her to breakfast every Saturday, (she still works, Thur, Fri, Sat from 7:00 P.M. to 7:00 A.M. This way she gets a good breakfast in the middle of her work week without having to cook).

I do think that I'm going to get some part time work before long, still have a Mortgage to pay, other unexpected expenses. But it'll give me more direction than I have now.

the nice part of the part time job gets me out of the house and associating with other people , its a gun club so i find common ground with many , ive found some to be helpful in finding brass and very willing to save it for me , a couple became long term friends , one a deer one got me connected to a trap team that ended up with my best friend and i getting to know each other ,

it would be nice if the owner found the help he is looking for so i could go back to part time , im currently 1 hour short of full time - i dont want to be full time , but i do like working there and will suffer through till he gets the added help , i also like the manager and have told him ill stick with him till he leaves ,

they give me the time off i ask for and i do get to my shoots ,

at 76 im happy to still be as active as i am , ive seen a lot of folks at the club in their 60s that arent as active as i am - or as able to be , heck , theres a couple 50s guys that are way worse than anything i complain about ,

i really dont complain a lot - just when my anthric hands hurt doing some simple task or my back hurts from doing too much , only mentioned if someone asks , truth is i hurt all the time but not too the point of complaining about it , that really doesnt help or make it go away so just dont talk of it ,

not sure what your interests will lead you to , but i enjoy my part time retirement job - even if its not part time right now ,

wife is not all that happy - she wants to have me doing things she wants done , but thats one of the benefits of having it
