A Cross Query...

Some folk can be a mite sensitive sometime.  Hold that thought; I’ll be back to it in a moment.

 

So!  I do a bit of amateur blacksmithing; just an old dude’s pastime.  Strictly a rank amateur, with emphasis on the “rank” part.

 

Anyway, one of the trinkets I’ll pound out is a cross.  Take an old railroad spike, cut it, heat it, bend it and pound it and end up with a Latin type cross with a diamond-shaped hole in the middle, at the intersection of the stipes and patibulum (vertical and horizontal beams). 

 

Sometimes apply a "blacksmith finish" and call it good.  Sometimes, though, I’ll decorate the cross by adding a concho ~ see below.  And here’s where the “sensitive” question comes about:

 

I ran out of the “turquoise” heart-shaped conchos, but found another sans-turquoise heart in the bottom of a box.  Thought it didn’t look bad; in fact, I kind of liked the relative simplicity - see the last photo, a "cross-in-progress."  So, what the heck – I’ll order more!  Well, I looked ‘em up, and… it seems out that Tandy calls it… a “Diablo Heart!”  

 

And with that, the question is: knowing how sensitive some folk are, how off-putting would it be to place a “Diablo Heart” on a Christian cross…?  

 

Hopefully not too “Alpo-esque” a query…

Your crosses are truly a work of art.  I love them both with and without the concho.

 

As for the "name" of the concho, who cares, IMHO..  You didn't name it, Tandy did so what does it matter. If asked, you can tell them it's a concho from Tandy.  Nuf said.  Your work is too beautiful and worthy of admiration to worry about the name of the concho............

To anybody that doesn't already know, it's just a heart concho. 

They, (Tandy) quit carrying the concho that I like, the Starberry concho. I have them on my gunbelts, holsters, and spur straps.

Just because Tandy says it's the devil's heart doesn't mean anybody else thinks it's the devil's heart.

 

 

And someone should tell Tandy that it needs to either be a devil's heart, or a corazón del Diablo.

That's on one version of my Scottish family crest with the motto "IN CRUCE SALUS" (In the cross is salvation.)

Beautiful work. I envy you your skill. My grandfather was a blacksmith, but I was “too busy” as a kid to learn from him. One of many ‘decisions’ I regret.

If it eases your mind, think of it this way: Christ’s cross consumes the diablo heart and makes it pure.

Theologically shaky, but emotionally sound.  Puts me in mind of the Pascal Homily of St. John Chrysostom.

i dont debate in this arena - im a believer that should suffice - it does for me and thsts what matters in my life , yall can argue religion all you want nut in the end it seems there are folks wanting to disagree with other folks and isnt that just what vhrist stood against ? 

im ok with all the other persuasions' pushing their version , go ahead , i have mine and il not be joining yours - im jest saying i like mine , yours looks a little off to mr , but thats my right under the constitution here - i can think as i choose and i do , im also old and set in my ways , , ill wear any cross that suits my fancy , 

im also a scotsman , we dont tend to listening to others regulations well , but we do believe in god , country , family and our free will
