watab kid Posted June 1 Posted June 1 had two moose encounters - make that three in my lifetime , first was on a boundry waers trip with nmy daughter , we cannoed into a bay and there he was in about six feet of water - no issues we looked at him and he continued eating second was coming our of a boundry water trip - we had loaded cannoes on the trailer and i was pulling out of the access - he charged my trailer , not hurt - either him or my equipment , third was in canada , leaving fro m a fishing trip , two bulls having a standoff in the middle of the highway , they both looked at my truck but resumed their fight for a couple minutes till onbe walked away the other followed and we went on our merry way , had a moment of pause whe both of them looked at my truck , was glad they didnt see me as a threat or competitor 4 Quote

Sheriff Dill Posted June 1 Posted June 1 When I was in patrol in our neighboring city we had a cow moose trying to get into our local Dollar General. We had to herd it out is the city back into the country. Big ole cow. I’ve had several encounters with bulls and cows. They sure can be dangerous at times. Quote

Eyesa Horg Posted June 1 Posted June 1 While hunting them many years ago. A 600# cow got within 22 feet of me with ears and head down stomping before I shot her in self defense! Luckily I had an either or permit and she didn't have any calves with her. Kinda scary to say the least! 4 Quote

Cold Lake Kid, SASS # 51474 Posted June 1 Posted June 1 (edited) One year, in our hunting lease, the rut started earlier, due to a few frosty nights. Walking in to our camp, at Dieu Riviere, Ontario, to set things up for the nearing moose season, we came upon a section of the trail torn up; saplings and small trees knocked down etc. and a cleared "path" into the tamaracks with ever increasing spots, then pools of dried blood, hair and tissue. Upon reaching the end of the path, we found a dead bull moose, broken legs, side ripped open and ribs caved in. It appeared that two bulls had been battling and we think one got horns into the ribs and lung of the loser, then in the heat of the rut, when the loser fell, the winner just kept battering the loser deeper and deeper into the brush. Trailrider #896 Posted June 1 Posted June 1 In the comments on that website, some idiot suggested someone should help the calves over the divider! The only thing worse than getting near a cow with even one calf is getting near a bull moose during the rut! We recently have had several moose encounters in or near Rocky Mountain National Park where a woman and her dogs were out walking and got run over by a moose. Woman sustained some injuries. Not sure about the dogs. 2 Quote
