Popcorn Kelly Posted May 5 Posted May 5 Recently my 750 started not picking up primers at the top of the stroke consistently (handle all the way down with brass lifted to the dies), sometimes failing 50% of the time. Other times it works a bit better, but not perfectly like it has for the past 5 years. I find that if I grip the rigged edge and give it a gentle pull at the end of the primer bar when it is at the top of the stroke where the primer should drop, a primer drops without fail. The bar itself pulls back maybe a millimeter. I can see the black cover that is pushed out from the stainless-steel block pushed out just a bit more when I pull on the bar. I’ve tried to see what adjustment I should make, but nothing seems obvious and I'm hesitant to just start changing things. For example, it seems to me if I were to bend the rod just to the right of the plastic guide in the image it would exert more rearward pressure on the primer bar, moving it back just a bit further. Not sure that's a good idea, though. I don't want to make it worse. Thoughts/suggestions? Quote
Slow Poke Posted May 5 Posted May 5 Try cleaning the bar and the slide area, I had a similar issue i used a lock cleaner and lubricant called houdini got a lot of dirt out that I didn't see. 2 Quote
Nevada Gambler, SASS #10225 Posted May 5 Posted May 5 Hello, I have found that I need to pull out the white insert that holds primers up. clean and lube. About every 500 rounds. Hope to shoot with you again. Nevada Gambler and family Quote
The Original Lumpy Gritz Posted May 5 Posted May 5 Lube the slide with silicone spray. Make sure the primer stand bolts are tight. 1 Quote
wyliefoxEsquire Posted May 5 Posted May 5 Read page 48 in the current manual. Like above, check the primer feed stop pin and the blue tip on the tube 1 Quote

If cracked it may or may not work. I keep spares! Since I readjusted the primer punch per the book, I haven't cracked a tip in years and thousands of rounds. Quote
Popcorn Kelly Posted May 6 Author Posted May 6 Thanks for all the advice. I've cleaned and lubed as suggested, which was overdue and a good thing to do. However, it didn't really help. I think I found the issue. The upper portion of the rod whose lower portion is in the image, also has a crook in it. At that point it runs through another plastic pulley-type guide. As I was looking at it, I found the crook to be slightly off in relation to the pulley. I surmised that if I lowered the block which attaches the upper end of the rod to the primer shaft it would force the lower to move the primer slide back ever so slightly. I lowered the block by about 1/4" and viola, the primer slide is now moving back to where my little manual pulls described in my original post triggered the primer drop. Actually, I think this is the way it's suppose to work. Not sure if I had moved the upper block at some point or if it just moved over these past 5 years or so, but things seem to be working (and are a bit cleaner as well). Thanks for all the comments. 1 1 Quote

Griff Posted May 6 Posted May 6 Here is the unit similar to what I have on my 550C & 550B to better support the primer slide: Dillon 750 Primer Slide Support. Quote
Shawnee Hills Posted May 6 Posted May 6 The leaf spring appears to be a bit loose as well. That’s easily fixed by tightening the bolt but be careful not to strip the threads. That block is aluminum, not stainless. Quote
