Ruger Wrangler springs

[Sgt. Hochbauer, SASS #64409]

I have a pair of Wranglers, and the hammer spring needs to be replaced with something a bit lighter. Just wondering what pound springs to order that should be reliable. Or how many coils to cut from the original springs.

I don't change the hammer springs on my Wranglers - only the trigger spring. 22 LR rimfire ammo can be picky about ignition with light hammer strikes depedning on the brand, quality, age, etc. Maybe others have had better luck than me.

We have switched many of them over to a wolf 17 pound spring don’t go any lighter and you shouldn’t have any problem from my experience

17’s from Wolff seemed to do the trick for Lil JB’s Wranglers.

I'm so far so good with the 15# out of the Wolff kit in my Wranglers.

I use 14 # springs, but that is with transfer bars removed.

Any that fits the Single six also fits the Wrangler

A few years ago my grandson started with Wranglers.  I polished the heck out of them, lightened that ridiculously hard gate spring, then started counting down main springs.  I got down to 14# springs before started to encounter light strikes.  Went back to 15# springs with 100% reliability.

I'm guessing here, but I'd guess if the guns are not polished up as best you can you may need to go no lighter than 17# springs.

We used mostly Aquilla ammo.  CCI and Winchester were also reliable, Federal and especially Remington were not.

Good to know about the ammo, thanks Taos.  My great nephew is just getting into and the 18 pound springs were a bit hard for him to cock, hopefully the 17's will work, if not I'll drop down to the 15# and go from there.

As already mentioned I've done several sets with the 17 lb from Wolff. Works great.

They may say that but there is no way the stock springs I took out of Lil’ JB’s Wranglers were 17lbs

I am in the process of setting up a set of Wranglers for my grandson.  From my research the grip frames on the wrangler are like the old model vaquero, new single six, and blackhawk frames which came with a 23lb mainspring. So I figure I need a spring kit for the old model vaquero with a 17lb hammer spring.  These are listed at Brownells for the New Single Six, but I cannot find any that are specific to the Wrangler.  It still appears to be the correct solution.   

 

I also went to the Wolff web site and they also have the new single six grouped the same way and nothing about a wrangler that I could find.

 

I compared the wrangler to one of my old model vaqueros with a stock spring in it and it definitley feels similar when compared side by side.  Someone posted earlier that the single six and wrangler springs were the same.  Brownells has a kit that comes with a 17, 18, and 19 hammer spring, RSA-106.   It certainly looks like that is the solution so I guess I will order a couple of sets and see.

Order from Wolff,  tell them you want the 2 spring sets from the same lot run.

When I called Ruger to get their recommendation the rep said the stock springs were 22 lb and also that anything less than 17 lb would be inconsistent in setting off the rimfire rounds. They were definitely heavier than the 17 lb springs I installed.
