John Barleycorn, SASS #76982 Posted May 2 Posted May 2 It’s been three years since Cimarron teased a Winchester 1897 project. Has the plan been abandoned? Quote

Have you seen what beat up Norinco’s are selling for? It all depends on the pricing... and that is the conundrum that manufacturers face. The reality is that the market for a repro '97 is likely very small. If they are priced low enough (and the guns are reliable), then yes, many CAS folks will probably buy a shooter and at least one backup. But how many '97's is that... really? Take the total # of CAS shooters, subtract the number that use SxS's or 87's, add a few hundred for the folks that will just want one for one reason or another, and what you will likely get is a pretty small number. And are sales sustainable into the future? If you are a manufacturer, would you be willing to take the risk? Quote

And if they made a trench version it would be money in the bank. conversely if some crappy manufacturer did a hack job like the Polytech 97 that was a copy of a copy it would bomb. 3 Quote

Why do you think a trenchgun would see while a regular one would not? Quote

I didn’t say a regular one would not sell. I’m sure it would, but a trench has a certain nostalgia that would drive sales. Quote
Abilene, SASS # 27489 Posted May 3 Posted May 3 Don't forget that the majority of all old west gun sales (including Cimarron, Taylors, etc) are bought by the general public, not CAS types. 1 Quote
