Alpo Posted April 27 Posted April 27 Question number one - if you were going to stash three 38 or 44 WCF cartridges in your hat, how would you do it? The only way I can think of is to stand them up behind the sweat band. But this would shrink your hat size about a half an inch, and you wouldn't be able to get it on your head. When they got to Lordsburg, Ringo told Curly, "I held out on you. I've got three cartridges left", and he took his hat off and reached inside the crown and got the three cartridges. Question number two - why would you stash them in your hat? I've got pants pockets. Question number three has nothing to do with the cartridges in the hat. Let's say that you were inside the stage, which was being pursued by a war party of screaming Indians who were too stupid to shoot the horses. You have at least two pistols. Nobody else in the stage appears to be armed. Would you give your spare gun to somebody else so that there could be two guns shooting at the pursuing Indians instead of just one? I wouldn't. I figure if someone doesn't carry a gun - at a time where everybody carried a gun - then they probably don't know what to do with it so all they would be doing would be making noise. I would rather I was the only one that was shooting because at least I would be hitting what I was shooting at. When the Indians attacked Curly unbelted his pistol and handed it down to Doc Boone inside the stage. I damn sure would not have risked passing the gun from the top of a bouncing around stage down to somebody reaching out the window. Too good a chance for the gun to end up laying in the trail as we gallop away. Quote
