Too Tall Bob Posted April 27 Posted April 27 What do folks like best? - magnetic clips - push pin with clasp - safety pin style Quote
Leroy Luck Posted April 27 Posted April 27 Magnetic clips… but it should be noted that folks with Pacemakers can’t wear them. Been to matches where safety pin style was offered to those individuals. But the other two styles are easier to add to hats and such. 1 1 Quote
Wild Eagle Posted April 27 Posted April 27 I don't have a real strong preference, but I would say magnetic. I think it gives more options as to where/how you wear it. I have heard several lady shooters say that they like not having to put a hole in their cloths too. 1 Quote
Cowtown Scout, SASS #53540 L Posted April 27 Posted April 27 I wear vests as a Classic cowboy and magnetic ones will not work on the vest. 4 1 Quote

Nostrum Damus SASS #110702 Posted April 27 Posted April 27 No preference. I'm easy. (Bullion Rose may disagree.) 1 1 Quote
Randy Saint Eagle, SASS # 64903 Posted April 27 Posted April 27 I guess I’ve lead a sheltered life, I’ve never gone a magnetic one at a match. With the exception of Land Run, I’ve always gotten ones with the safety pin type back. I normally pin mine to a sleeve garter. I used to get magnetic backed name badges at church but always lost them and I am more active at a match so I’m pretty sure I’d lose them. Randy 4 1 Quote
Cholla Posted April 27 Posted April 27 Stick pin with clasp. I kept losing my name badge in years past. 2 Quote
Sedalia Dave Posted April 27 Posted April 27 Magnets if they are good ones. They'll hold even through a vest. Problem is cost doesn't correlate with the strength of the magnet. 2 Quote
watab kid Posted April 27 Posted April 27 i like the safety pin type - i cant have magnets over my pacemaker - theres a switch thats magnet activated 2 1 Quote
Pistol Paisan Posted April 27 Posted April 27 I am an insurance agent in my 9-5 (for better or worse) - I cannot tell you how many holes I have had to put in my dress clothes for trade shows, conventions, meeting and trainings name tags. High quality magnetic name tags are the way to go (except for the aforementioned folks that cannot use due to medical devices). What if SASS HQ could standardize a "match style" name tag (similar to the badge) and match organizers could then offer the "opportunity" to sponsors as a new level of sponsorship . just a thought ... 3 Quote

Yellowstone Vic SASS#32968 Posted April 27 Posted April 27 Magnets can work. I do have a pacemaker and as Watab says a magnet will put me in "service mode" which locks my heart rate at 70 bpm. I wear them on the back of my shirt near in the yoke of my shirt or on my scarf in the back. TO and Scorekeeper can actually see it when they ask "alias please". YMMV 1 Quote
Geronimo Jim SASS # 21775 Posted April 27 Posted April 27 I don't care as long as the name is big enough to read...........which most matches they are not. 3 2 Quote
Bladesmith, SASS 113085 Posted April 27 Posted April 27 (edited) I like the idea of magnetic, though I don’t have extensive experience to offer. I did pick up a magnetic eye glasses holder with the intent of affixing a bit of fabric to the ring so I could use it with the pin style tags. Haven’t tried it out yet to give a field report, but I expect it to work fine. Eye Glass Holder - Denham Edited April 27 by Bladesmith, SASS 113085 1 Quote
I. M. Crossdraw, SASS# 8321 Posted April 27 Posted April 27 Magnet for me. Do you know what happens when those pins unsnap while still on your shirt?😬 2 Quote
Earl Brasse, SASS #3562 Posted April 27 Posted April 27 Safety pin, magnets keep popping off vest or suspenders on a regular basis. +1 for making the alias large enough to read. 2 Quote
Rye Miles #13621 Posted April 27 Posted April 27 Doesn’t matter one bit to me, they end up in the drawer or trash anyway. Make em as cheap as you can or maybe don’t make em at all.🙄 Quote
T-Square Posted April 28 Posted April 28 (edited) How about make the BEST name tag ever, and never need a new one ?!? The name tag is for the NAME not to promote the match ! Never do 'cheap' or 'trash' ! Edited April 28 by T-Square spelling 2 Quote

Never do 'cheap' or 'trash' ! The badges ARE to advertise the match! A lot of matches theme the badges to the theme of the match. Folks keep them and display them in a variety of ways. I keep the safety pin ones (I prefer) in the headliner if my van. It’s a conversation starter and a way to see where I’ve been. When the Belton Bushwhackers hosted the SC State match, they did not buy badges. They said wear a badge from a favorite match. The NC match folks chimed in and said anyone wearing a NC match badge would be entered for a free entry to NC! The badges are also a way to identify registered competitors - the only ones allowed to wear firearms - and for entry to banquets, etc. The cost difference between magnet and pin last time I asked added $1-2 to the cost of the badge. They’re like $3-4 each or more and adding another dollar or two is a lot. Hugs! Scarlett 4 1 Quote

T-Square Posted April 28 Posted April 28 Thanks, Scarlett— When a match goes with the “bring your favorite badge” idea, doesn’t that undercut two of the three main purposes of a badge? Promotion for the match and clear competitor identification both take a hit—especially when the name is supposed to be the whole point of a name badge. Now sure, if someone’s decked out head-to-toe in full regalia, nobody’s likely to question whether they belong or paid their dues. But if a fella wanders in dressed the part without registering—well, now we’ve got ourselves an interloper. And no matter how shiny their boots are, they won’t show up on posse lists or have a seat at the banquet table. But we've all seen bonified shooters loose their name badge and still participate. That said, you make a fine point about collectability. Some of these badges are downright works of creativity ! I’ve seen a train set — each year adding another car—and that’s the kind of thing that turns a simple badge into a cherished keepsake. I’ve held onto all of my name tags / badges, and I’ll admit, the better the badge, the more it adds to the whole experience. The cheap, flimsy ones? They sink to the bottom of the pile mighty quick. I’ll always ride against cheap and trashy —badges included… though I might make one notable exception for certain saloon girls. 4 Quote

If you have 50 shooters and the badges cost say $5.00 each, that’s $250 that could go to buy more prizes or to the club for something else, food, snacks etc. just MHO Edited April 28 by Rye Miles #13621 2 Quote
