Chamber Sleeving

Some years back, I had a gunsmith put a .44 special  chamber sleeve in a .44-40 Henry. Then had face of lifter beveled to feed .44 Russian.  I would like to do that again. Any suggestions on who can do it?

NO.  Well not completely.  I do not know whom to recommend for a chamber sleeve.  However, rather than messing with the Carrier Block, I'd suggest The Smith Shop carrier block for short cartridges.  Just a random thought.

Will it work with Henry in .44-40? Seems it would cause issues with cases.

Dusty, there are a few people who shoot Russians in their 44-40's.  Maybe not ideal, but they do it.

 

For myself, I'd like to get a .36 cap and ball barrel sleeved to .357 but don't know who does it now.  (edit: I meant lined, not sleeved - Thanx Boggus)

I misspoke here. Brain fart. I was thinking of .44 spl Henry, which are practically unobtainium.

No.  The short cartridge Smith Shop carrier block is optimized for "Short" cartridges.  It's not an either/or.  To run traditional cartridges, such as 44 Special or 44-40 you would have to take a minute and swap back to the OEM carrier block.

Right now, I just need the Smith Shop carrier to run .44 Russian in a .44 Special rifle.

I put one of Bill's carriers in my 44-40 Uberti Henry a couple of years ago. I cut 44 magnum brass down to 45 ACP length and started playing. The brass runs with no problems at all and solved another problem I was having. I had to load cartridges with the bullet set deeper in the brass in order to get 10 rounds in the short barrel. The cut down .44 brass solved that problem. Love to shoot the Henry,

I don’t know but I have one about 2/3 done for you. I just need a few days of nothing else but to experiment.😉
