Alpo Posted April 9 Posted April 9 Han did not "shoot first". That statement implies that they both shot. Han shot first and then the other guy - Guido? - returned fire. Since Quido didn't get a chance to shoot back, Han did not "shoot first". He just shot. 2 Quote

In the original cut, Greedo did fire, hitting the wall. Probably a spasm of his hand while dying. 2 Quote

Blackwater 53393 Posted April 9 Posted April 9 Schoolmarm and I didn’t get to take a honeymoon when we got married. I went straight back to work the next day and it was a little more than a year before we got to go. We went to Gatlinburg for a week and Star Wars was playing in the theater across the parking lot from where we stayed. It wasn’t the first movie we saw together, but it was the first we saw as a married couple. We’ve seen ‘em all and we’re looking forward to the new one coming out next month. I hope it’s better than some of the more recent ones. 2 Quote
Rye Miles #13621 Posted April 9 Posted April 9 I remember bringing my sons to see that in 77, they loved it! So did I! They were 7 and 9 the time. I’ve seen it again since and it’s still good. I’ve seen the others following and they were ehhhhh……. 2 Quote
Still hand Bill Posted April 9 Posted April 9 I went with my dad, first movie I ever had to wait in line to see. Looking back, it had to have been popular to have a line for an afternoon matinee. I have had the pleasure of viewing over half the series in the theater. Some good, some not as much. Never been a series that I have gone back and watched again. 1 Quote
Dapper Dave Posted April 10 Posted April 10 I watched Star Wars in the theater in 1977 - at that time, how cool you were in school was related to how many times you saw Star Wars. I saw it ten time...so I wasn't very cool. Dad bought me the Early Bird set of action figures, had to be ordered. 10 years later this giant blithering idiot used them for target practice with a 22lr. Last time I looked, the Jawa figure alone is worth $1500 or something ridiculous like that. 3 Quote

That's only because giant blithering idiots destroyed most of them. If you had kept them, and everybody else that kept them also, they'd be worth a couple of dollars. 2 Quote
Dapper Dave Posted April 10 Posted April 10 Glad to contribute to some other dudes fortune, then, I guess. 1 3 Quote

Cypress Sun Posted April 10 Posted April 10 Just saw this. France's last use of the guillotine was the same year as Star Wars came out, 1977. Quote

So, are you trying to take over Subdeacon Joe's position as the Purveyor of Useless Knowledge? Maybe the two of you and Alpo should resurrect The Keeper Of Odd Knowledge Society. (K.O.O.K.S.) 2 Quote

Just happened to see it on Fox News and figured it was pertinent with this thread. 2 Quote
WD Farren Posted April 10 Posted April 10 (edited) I loved the opening fanfare of the musical score. IMO it has yet to be bested. Edited April 10 by WD Farren 1 Quote

Alpo Posted April 11 Posted April 11 There were a whole bunch of big dinosaur-looking critters wandering around, that were not there in the original. "Oh wow - look what I can do with CGI!!!" In the conversation in the cantina, where "Han shot first", Jaba was mentioned. But the first time we ever see him is in the third movie, where Luke shows up and Leah is a prisoner in that metal bikini. But now Jaba is in the first movie. When Han and Chewy show up at the ship, he's there wanting to know where his money is. Think on that for a minute. You owe Vito Corleone money. And you're going to drive a truckload of hot televisions across country, and when you sell them you will now have the money to pay what you owe. Can you visualize the Godfather waiting for you at the trucking terminal - where is my money? I could see him sending Tom. I can maybe see him sending Sonny. But going himself? Ain't no way. He's too damn important. But Jaba the Hutt goes to the freight terminal because some Penny-Ante smuggler owes him money? Lucas got a little carried away with his CGI crap. 1 Quote

That scene was originally shot for the first movie, but with a human actor. This guy: Most of what Lucas did, he did because that was his original vision for the movie, they just couldn't do it in 1976. Originally, Mos Eisley wasn't a very big place, it had more of a small space port town look to it. In the newer version, you can see that it's a fairly good sized city. When they're trying to get off the Death Star, and Has chases those Storm Troopers down the hall, originally there were only about a half dozen. In the new version, he chases them into a Squad Room where there are a LOT more. When the Rebels attack the Death Star, he added a LOT more Rebel ships, added more space battle scenes, and even had an X-Wing flying through the debri field of a Tie Fighter he'd just blown up. 3 Quote

Nope, it was a colorful put together cardboard display base that had 6 figures, IIRC, Luke, Leia, Han, Chewy, Darth, and the Jawa. The figures would just sit on the base. It wasn't sold in stores. 1 Quote
WD Farren Posted April 11 Posted April 11 I recently added a modest 5.1.2 soundbar to my 4k TV. The sound is a vast improvement, albeit short of a true home theater experience (and the hardware). We are really enjoying all the movies that now stream in 4k Atmos. It adds so much to the sound. Quote

And headphones....it's amazing what you hear with the headphones on....the background noises are sometimes amazing, frogs, birds, crickets, a vehicle off in the distance...the stuff you really don't hear otherwise. 1 Quote
WD Farren Posted April 11 Posted April 11 Windows 10 and later has an app you can acquire for a very modest fee that simulates Atmos in head phones. It really is quite remarkable. One of my friends came up with an idea for a wireless headphone set for hearing impaired TV viewers. The device is Bluetooth on both ends. One end accepts a USB thumb drive with a standardized hearing response curve from an audiologist. It then modifies the movie sound track accordingly and feeds that modified signal into the head phones. This lets a normal hearing wife enjoy a movie without hearing her hubby's hearing impaired boosts and cuts. 2 1 Quote
Forty Rod SASS 3935 Posted April 11 Author Posted April 11 We saw the first one in Orange County at a theater with a wraparound and over screen. When those ships 'flew out of the balcony' in the opening sequence, I was hooked. After the movie I was driving home and my wife told me "to slow it down because you aren't flying an X-wing fighter and you're going to get a ticket." 3 Quote

Ozark Huckleberry Posted April 12 Posted April 12 one way to look at it is that Star Wars came out in the mid- to latter part of the 1900s. Quote
