UPDATE: My baby girl survived and we brought her home last night. Final bill was over $8200. I've been up with her since 0315 cleaning up diarrhea, which the vet said to expect. She's on five different medications for the next three weeks.

My little mutt, Aspen, has been in the emergency room since Friday night and she's not completely out of the water yet. So far I'm into them for $7500 and I won't be going much farther, so I'm hoping I can take her home tomorrow.

My teenage son ordered some flavored caffeine packets (against my advice). They are 200 mg per packet, with 15 packets in a can that looks like a tobacco can. The delivery guy left them on the front porch and my baby girl ripped them open and ate two cans worth of packets. That's a total of 6000 mg of caffeine, triple the lethal dose for a human. I didn't take any pictures on Friday night when it happened, but she looked much worse then.

Right now her little heart is experiencing arrhythmia on occasion. They have her heavily drugged to counter the stimulant and to try to regulate her heart.

I wish the best for you and your pal!  I would be having harsh discussions with the young gent, and he would have a lot of unpaid tasks in his immediate future.  I have never regretted what I spent on my dog friends at the vet.  I would also be thinking about a package box - closing the barn after the horsse has left!

ive not ever spent that on a pet in my life , my folks may have when i was a kid as  always had a german shepard at my side , yet later life left me with a couple pets ex-wives took , my current buddy is a yorkie that i would consider spending that on , but based on the original post my little buddy at 12 lbs would never have survived ,

im happy to hear you saved yours - you child needs to understand and change his ways , the dogs dont know any better we do and need to act accordingly

I don't mean to be contrary, but there seems to be a lot of blame towards the boy. Yes, maybe he shouldn't have ordered the stuff against Dad's advice, but he didn't do anything negligent that caused Aspen to eat it from what I understood. It was left like any other package on the porch and Aspen got into it.

I'm thinking the young man is/was just as heartbroken about his doggie being sick.
