Charlie MacNeil, SASS #48580 Posted April 5 Posted April 5 Seriously! People are constantly using old photos of cowboys, etc. as examples of how costuming should be. It's kind of been my impression that in the vast majority of those photos the subjects are wearing some style of facial hair, whether it be mustache, beard, whatever. So why not require it in Classic Cowboy? Except for one year when I was having worse than normal wrist issues, I've been shooting CC for almost twenty years, so I'm not bringing this up because I ain't "been there, done that". I have. So why not? 4 1 Quote

Rip Snorter Posted April 5 Posted April 5 (edited) Interesting point, actually, if you look it up, near 90% of U.S. males had facial hair around the turn of the century, 1890 on. Trending toward moustaches! Edited April 5 by Rip Snorter Typo Quote
Rip Snorter Posted April 5 Posted April 5 Flashing back to HS & College Theatricals, spirit gum and fake would work. Quote
Cowtown Scout, SASS #53540 L Posted April 5 Posted April 5 Some folks who work in jobs that require the use of resperators cannot have facial hair due to job requirements and the need for a proper facial seal. 9 Quote
Rip Snorter Posted April 5 Posted April 5 Fake ones are easy on and off, if well made, they aren't even uncomfortable. Various solvents are made to soften and remove the adhesive. Quote

Cypress Sun Posted April 5 Posted April 5 Yes...with the provision they must wear the same outfit that they will be wearing to the match for 20 days in a row before the match, arrive at the match riding a horse that carries all match guns, ammo and everything needed at the match and leave the match riding a horse. Most importantly, they must pay match fees in whatever currency was available/worth in the particular year that their character is based on. 6 2 11 Quote

Rance - SASS # 54090 Posted April 5 Posted April 5 I don’t shoot that class.. but making it a mandatary rule?? No.. a lot of wives don’t like facial hair on their husbands.. Shooter has a wedding where he’s gotta walk his daughter down the aisle.. Daughter wants a clean shaved Dad for the wedding and all the pictures.. Memories ya know.. Dad has a Major Match the next day?? Not enough facial hair to suit the judges.. Disqualified for CC.. next shooter.. Don’t need no stink in’ badges… errr.. uhhh… facial hair.. 3 1 Quote
Dantankerous Posted April 5 Posted April 5 Ever see the JW movie The Cowboys? How many of them guys had facial hair? 🤠 Plenty of real Old West cowBOYS were young and probably couldn't grow enough facial hair to bother with owning a razor. Not all cowboys looked like Sam Elliot. 4 1 Quote
Boggus Deal #64218 Posted April 5 Posted April 5 Think about it like this, should Classic Cowgirls not be allowed razors? 6 Quote

I can't imagine that safety glasses, ear protection, blood pressure medication, stints and pace makers would be allowed... 🤠 1 1 3 Quote
John Kloehr Posted April 5 Posted April 5 All shooters in the category? I think at least the ladies should be allowed to shave. 1 3 Quote

Matthew Duncan Posted April 5 Posted April 5 Grandpa. Why do you have a mustache and grandma don’t? Because grandmas shaves hers….until SASS makes it mandatory. 4 Quote
Black Hills Barb Posted April 5 Posted April 5 Just let us Classic Cowgirls alone, unless you count a fake mustache as one of the requirements. 7 Quote

Rip Snorter Posted April 6 Posted April 6 (edited) It is a game, one which has enormously expanded the rules since I last shot a match. I have had a moustache more years than not in a long life. Currently not, but easy to resume. An amusing interlude in the Real Cowboy Shooting dialog. I should have left it alone - boring day, apologies! You don't play the game, you don't make the rules! Some will remember that as a pre meme . Edited April 6 by Rip Snorter Quote

Yer gettin' warmer there Ol Salty. Here's what I'd do. Make it be an alternative requirement for chinks. If it gets fewer cowboys wearing chinks then it is a win-win. hehe. 1 2 Quote
Totes Magoats Posted April 6 Posted April 6 It's a good thing the term "Classic" doesn't change in CAS like it does in music. Else, folks would have to dress like John Travolta in Urban Cowboy (1980). Ain't now way Gun's N Roses is 'Classic' rock now! 😄 Totes 1 1 Quote

watab kid Posted April 7 Posted April 7 i think yall should do what feels right and works in your current situation , im retired , i have a beard ever since i was retired , i had one before i was employed - in college , its got to be optional as classic cowboys lived that way i think , some g=had , some didnt , depended on if they had facility and or wanted to groom as one might have wanted back them , im not cutting my beard but i didnt grow it for this game , let everyone do their own thing within the constraints' they live in or you will loose shooters 1 Quote
