Chantry Posted April 5 Posted April 5 The book, if written, should be very interesting. ย Elsewhere on the internet, they discuss how various different units were brought in ad hoc and how well the various units meshed.ย ย ย Apparently they also inflected heavy casualties on the IRGC units trying to find the WSO. 2 Quote
Trailrider #896 Posted April 5 Posted April 5 Great news! One report said the officer, a colonel, sustained "wounds". With all due respect for his privacy, I am curious to know if they were wounds when the plane was hit, or spinal injuries due to the ejection process. What ejection systems are used in the F-15E? Martin-Baker or ACES-2, or something else. How critical is body position when ejecting? Just my engineering curiosity, as I worked on development of some of the earlier systems, long ago.ย 1 Quote

Chantry Posted April 6 Posted April 6 5 hours ago, Hardpan Curmudgeon SASS #8967 said: Is it common for a backseater to be a colonel...?ย ย ย Probably not uncommon, he would progress through the ranks much like the pilot does going to the applicable military schools required for advancement to the next rank.ย And "gunner" over simplifies his role.ย A WSO is responsible for all of the sensors related to targeting and firing the weapons except maybe the M61 20mm Vulcan which the pilot handles. 2 Quote
