Hush Puppies are much heavier and made with corn meal instead of flour.

The texture is more coarse grainy. Often made with jalapenos or onions, they’re more dense and are usually served as a side dish to the main entree rather than as a snack or dessert.

We usually fry ours in the oil used for cooking fish.

The two do share the same cooking process.

Still, a dough made from ground grain and deep fried.  Pretty much a universal concept.

And....

Have you ever had Dessert Hush Puppies? A little higher ratio of AP flour,  a little sugar,  i like a little Allspice in the batter. Dust with Cinnamon Sugar when they come out of the fryer.  Great with vanilla ice cream.

If you ever get up to Clearfield, Utah go to Granny Annie's cafe and order Mormon Scones.

With rich butter and some old fashioned maple syrup  and a side of bacon they are so good I'm convinced that God has them for breakfast a couple of times a week.

Never heard 'em called that, but there's some eateries around here that adds so much sugar they should be.  Not my preference.

In Florida, Conch Fritters are becoming rarer and rarer. It's kind of a hush puppy with conch meat. Many places think that a miniscule sliver of conch is good enough, it's not.

That sounds delicious!

I had hushpuppies the other day with a catfish dinner and I used a very spicy Nashville Hot sauce on them. It was outstanding! They served it with a creamy coleslaw and mixed beans with chopped onion and a touch of sage!

I’ll be going back!!!
