Blackwater 53393 Posted April 4 Posted April 4 Cook that low and slow to get a more appetizing texture. I’d try a smoker and for a couple of hours. 5 1 Quote
Subdeacon Joe Posted April 4 Author Posted April 4 Lots of ways to go about cooking it. Bake, braise, broil, smoke, indirect heat grilling. I'd use a thinner cut bacon because it's not going to be crisp. 2 Quote
Blackwater 53393 Posted April 4 Posted April 4 I wouldn’t necessarily want it to be “crisp”, but I don’t want to bite into it and have that spongy, undercooked, blubbery fat, texture! 2 2 Quote
Linn Keller, SASS 27332, BOLD 103 Posted April 4 Posted April 4 ABSOLUTELY I need this one!!! Blackwater's wise counsel sounds like the way to go, for exactly the reasons cited! 5 1 Quote
Sedalia Dave Posted April 7 Posted April 7 I'd be tempted to partially cook the bacon before adding the beef so that it wouldn't turn out undercooked while the beef was over cooked. 1 2 Quote
Colorado Coffinmaker Posted April 8 Posted April 8 I'm with Sedalia Dave on this one. No doubt though, "Every Thing Goes Better With Bacon!!" 1 1 Quote

Blackwater 53393 Posted April 8 Posted April 8 A slice of ripe firm tomato, perhaps, but ketchup?? Nyet!! Quote
Rye Miles #13621 Posted April 9 Posted April 9 (edited) Yea ketchup! Why not? Hey if you guys don’t like it then don’t put it on! Are you guys the ketchup police or something? Geeeez…..To each his own! 🙄 Edited April 9 by Rye Miles #13621 1 Quote
Blackwater 53393 Posted April 9 Posted April 9 I don’t care what you put on your food, but I reserve the right to comment on it! Why should you be offended?? And since I make fun of almost everything and everyone at some point, I’ll make fun of you about this!! Ya’ remind me of a comic book character that appeared in the Archie comics! They gave descriptions of all the characters and the description of Jughead was, “He’ll eat anything as long as it has ketchup on it!” and they showed him with an old boot covered in the stuff! 🤣 If ya’ didn’t laugh at that… 2 Quote
Rip Snorter Posted April 9 Posted April 9 Heinz, though I will use a good BBQ sauce about half the time. Quote
Blackwater 53393 Posted April 9 Posted April 9 For the sandwich in question, my preference would be a couple slices of American cheese, a slice of ripe tomato, a good sprinkle of black pepper, and a smear of spicy garlic aioli. Another option would be a slice of tomato and a fried egg with a sprinkle of cheddar cheese. Quote

There’s plenty of things you and others have said about food and condiments that i don’t care for but I don’t say anything to make you sound like a fool. Like I said To each his own! BTW I don’t put ketchup on everything so that doesn’t apply to me and I didn’t laugh. Edited April 9 by Rye Miles #13621 1 1 Quote

Sort of the way some people have a compulsive need to make derogatory comments about baseball, or other professional sports, on almost every thread about them. 1 Quote
