If a lady wanted to shoot a match in an open category (like cowboy) with the men, would she for sure be with the ladies in the shootoff and eligible of being the overall lady, or would it be up to those running the match?

There are no men's categories, only open categories (non gender specific) and ladies categories (gender specific). I was basically asking if there is something official stating the top gun shootoffs and top overall are gender specific. We figured it was, but wanted to make sure.

This is in the sanctioning agreement for a State Championship; The highest overall placed male and female whose primary US residence is located within the state will be recognized as the SASS State Champions.  SASS provides buckles for Overall Male and Overall Female State Champions. I don't know about other clubs, but Wartrace provides a separate award for the Overall Male and Overall Female, no matter where they are from at the Tennessee State Championship. I can't speak on Shoot-offs but the ones I have seen typically have the Top 16 Male and Top 16 Female, and I don't see where it would matter what category they were shooting in.

I shot Open Frontier Cartridge Gunfighter at Peace in the Valley (Enderlin, ND SD/ND state match). I won my category and was Top Lady. A SUPER proud moment that probably won’t ever happen again!

I was shooting Open because I was going to be shooting Open at Land Run. I was trying to get used to it - and other people too so I wouldn’t feel quite so awkward. It was ok until I got called at LR for 5th place among a lot of men and Flat Top had to explain ….

I think it’ll happen more. And, your girls can handle it like PROS! 😉

Hugs!
