Rustler, SASS #33316 Posted March 11 Posted March 11 News of the World SASS at Cowtown will rise from the ashes and continue as a shooting club. I met with Cowtown management today, and they are genuinely committed to keeping SASS going. We reached a handshake agreement for the following plans: Cowtown will be responsible for providing the shooting facility, scheduling, payments, steel, and liability insurance. We also discussed moving the Cowboy area to a larger section of the range and rebuilding the town. The Cowboy community will provide the match labor (volunteers), with me as the “mentally challenged” Match Director. Our plans are to continue offering CAS, WB, and expand to include Long Range Rifle (dust off your Sharps). There is still a lot to be worked out, and they need to purchase targets, but Cowboy shooting at Cowtown will continue with a short hiatus. Rustler BTW: I need a new club name — 14 4 Quote

Diamond R Posted March 12 Posted March 12 Rustler, I have several targets that I would like to sell. PM me and I will give you more info Diamond R 1 1 Quote
Diamond Jake Posted March 12 Posted March 12 Very glad to hear this. When my first SASS club lost access to a range, we went almost three years before getting access to another place to shoot. It's rough, and we have to set up/take down everything for each match, but we're shooting again! 3 Quote

Griff Posted March 13 Posted March 13 I've never shot at Cowtown, and only visited once, with Lefty Dude, many years ago. I seem to recall it being between floods. Glad to hear one of earliest cowboy action clubs is able to continue. Congrats! 1 Quote

X Mark Posted March 13 Posted March 13 After the last Fire and Ice there I said it ought to be renamed " Broke Gun Gulch " ! I saw more guns go away from their carts to the vehicles than I can ever remember seeing at a match ! 2 Quote

COWTOWN COWBOY SHOOTERS ASSOCIATION To all our faithful Members over the years Due to a new proposed contract agreement with the Cowtown Range, I felt the new plan was not beneficial to the Cowboy Shooters Family, so chose to shut down the club at this time and retire. It has been a lot of great years together and I thank you all for being a part of it. Regards and shoot straight, Barb Wire… Quote

Gunner, SASS #1940 Posted March 14 Posted March 14 Well, ain't that a fine pickle. As a member of CowTown Range, I always found it interesting that the website prominently features the cowboy shooters, though membership to the range does NOT include or have anything to do with the CAS/SASS club. Sorry, but I have a hard time believing the ownership/mgmt genuinely want to do anything other than make a buck. If the lease had become so untenable, I can't imagine what would change. Perhaps none of my business, but I wonder what the handshake deal looks like. Or with a new ramrod for the cowboys, are they (the cowboys) more willing to put up with the BS and costs? What will a match cost now? Having steel up all the time was a wonderful benefit of being a cowboy member. Why the need to tear down after every match situated in a private area of the range. The range has already canceled multi-gun completely, twice. And after the 2nd time, it will not be coming back, at least under current mgmt. That alone brought in a lot of money to the club, and had a very loyal following. I can tell you that many times I have seen empty bays on the 3rd Saturday...so how much money are they really making. For those wondering, yes there is a lot of new development taking place around the range, but the range also just bought up a bunch of land, I believe from BLM, which my hope would be to help insure its longevity. I have seen some good and positive changes at the range, and I have also seen stupid decisions. On the outside at least, this looks like one of the stupid. 2 1 Quote
Gunner, SASS #1940 Posted March 27 Posted March 27 @Rustler, SASS #33316 Tell me about the April 11th match, please. Different day.... Will it be held in the cowboy area, or in the east bays? What is the cost? Thankee! Quote

Larsen E. Pettifogger, SASS #32933 Posted March 27 Posted March 27 Interesting that neither the Cowtown Range or Rustler have sent out anything about it. I would not be packing a lunch just yet. Quote
Gunner, SASS #1940 Posted March 27 Posted March 27 Packin' my lunch ain't too much of a problem. I only live 15 minutes away. Rustler Horsethief is already squadded on Posse 2.... And they have 6 stages already designed/drawn up and posted... It is all kinda weird at this point. They ask for a membership number, not sure if they want my SASS number or my CowTown number, but CowTown has now gone away from membership numbers... So that too is weird. Posting it on Practiscore is how matches get "announced", at least outside of the cowboy world nowadays. Quote
Larsen E. Pettifogger, SASS #32933 Posted March 27 Posted March 27 Posted where? I thought Practiscore is a scoring program. If they don’t put something somewhere that cowboy shooters actually see they are going to have a pretty small crowd. 1 Quote
Gunner, SASS #1940 Posted March 27 Posted March 27 Practiscore is scoring, you are correct sir, but it is pretty much an information clearing house or hub for all matches - maybe even worldwide. That is how one signs up for matches in advance. Back in the olden days, you show up for a cowboy match somewhere, pay your fees and sign up on a squad. So I really don't know how it is for CAS now, but almost all matches now require advance sign up and payment, and then squad up, then you show up and shoot. Popular matches, be it, Steel, USPSA, multi-gun/3-gun, IDPA etc., all do this now. Quote
KingSnake Posted March 27 Posted March 27 It shows two stages at each of Sheriff, Hotel, and Hop Sings. Quote
Larsen E. Pettifogger, SASS #32933 Posted March 27 Posted March 27 (edited) I now understand what you are saying. BUT there is nothing on the Cowtown Range website. The last communication they emailed out was March 18 and in that email they say they have not finalized range operations yet. They need to send out notices in a form most users will see. I looked up Practiscore and the first thing it demands is that you open an account, follow their terms and conditions, surrender the right to sell your information etc. At this point unless and until Cowtown Range sends out an updated notice and have something on their website I guess I will not be attending. Flying W Ramrod Posted March 28 Posted March 28 Note, this match was a Practice Match to see how the Registration system worked. More information will be coming. 1 Quote
