I currently have an Uberti 1875 Outlaw with a 7-1/2" bbl. I bought it around 2006 (20 years ago) and this one has the hammer with the spring loaded safety inside. I'm thinking of getting a 5-1/2" bbl model. Are all of the 1875 Outlaws created equal? Do/did any of the distributors have a "better" version of the Outlaw that I should look for? I'm hoping to find a good deal on a used one, but will buy a new one if necessary, or if a newer version is simply better.

I suppose I could also have my current bbl cut down. Not sure of the cost, but when all is said and done I would only have one gun. Having a backup is appealing.        Thanks for your help,   the Kid

i just bought a pair of 7 1/2" that i intend to shoot this year , i cant speak to any variations other than the uberti - mine are great right out of the box [im sure improvements could be made] im looking forward to shooting them , on these i like the longer bbls , as to a 5 1/2" bbl - thats what my ruger NMV s are so i can go to those if need be ,  and i hae 4 3/4" as well

Oh!  I thought this was one of those "...finish this sentence..." thingies, so I was going to say, "... are all dead now."

I have two pair of 1875s, one pair with 7.5” barrels and the other with 5.5” barrels

The 7.5s have been my main match guns, off and on, for twenty years! I shoot 1860 Army replicas for Frontiersman, but I always come back to those ‘75s!

Got the 5.5s because they were like the other pair and fit the double Huckleberry rig that I used when shooting Josey Wales! One was originally a cap ‘n’ ball gun that I reworked to shoot cartridges and I bought the second one to make a pair. I had Boomstick Jay short stroke these two and lower and widen the hammer spurs to make them better for shooting Gunfighter!

I think they are the best revolvers for people with large hands because they have larger grips and more space behind the trigger guard.

In twenty years, I have broken one mainspring and one pawl spring. The mainspring was improperly ground to lighten it. I replaced both springs with VTI lightweight springs and rearched them myself. That was 19 years ago. The pawl/hand spring broke on the last shot of a stage and I was able to repair the gun between stages while we were eating lunch!

They come to point of aim naturally for me and are just plain comfortable to shoot!
