El Sobrante Kid Posted March 8 Posted March 8 I currently have an Uberti 1875 Outlaw with a 7-1/2" bbl. I bought it around 2006 (20 years ago) and this one has the hammer with the spring loaded safety inside. I'm thinking of getting a 5-1/2" bbl model. Are all of the 1875 Outlaws created equal? Do/did any of the distributors have a "better" version of the Outlaw that I should look for? I'm hoping to find a good deal on a used one, but will buy a new one if necessary, or if a newer version is simply better. I suppose I could also have my current bbl cut down. Not sure of the cost, but when all is said and done I would only have one gun. Having a backup is appealing. Thanks for your help, the Kid Quote
watab kid Posted March 9 Posted March 9 i just bought a pair of 7 1/2" that i intend to shoot this year , i cant speak to any variations other than the uberti - mine are great right out of the box [im sure improvements could be made] im looking forward to shooting them , on these i like the longer bbls , as to a 5 1/2" bbl - thats what my ruger NMV s are so i can go to those if need be , and i hae 4 3/4" as well 1 Quote

Griff Posted March 9 Posted March 9 Oh! I thought this was one of those "...finish this sentence..." thingies, so I was going to say, "... are all dead now." 2 Quote
Blackwater 53393 Posted March 11 Posted March 11 (edited) I have two pair of 1875s, one pair with 7.5” barrels and the other with 5.5” barrels The 7.5s have been my main match guns, off and on, for twenty years! I shoot 1860 Army replicas for Frontiersman, but I always come back to those ‘75s! Got the 5.5s because they were like the other pair and fit the double Huckleberry rig that I used when shooting Josey Wales! One was originally a cap ‘n’ ball gun that I reworked to shoot cartridges and I bought the second one to make a pair. I had Boomstick Jay short stroke these two and lower and widen the hammer spurs to make them better for shooting Gunfighter! I think they are the best revolvers for people with large hands because they have larger grips and more space behind the trigger guard. In twenty years, I have broken one mainspring and one pawl spring. The mainspring was improperly ground to lighten it. I replaced both springs with VTI lightweight springs and rearched them myself. That was 19 years ago. The pawl/hand spring broke on the last shot of a stage and I was able to repair the gun between stages while we were eating lunch! They come to point of aim naturally for me and are just plain comfortable to shoot! Edited March 11 by Blackwater 53393 1 Quote

Bailey Creek,5759 Posted March 12 Posted March 12 Instead of purchasing a new pistol. Purchase a 5 1/2-inch barrel. Swap them out not hard to do. Then if you don't like it, you can swap back. 1 Quote
watab kid Posted March 13 Posted March 13 makes sense , also beats cutting something down and regretting it Quote
