Last time I bought primers

I bought 50k at 13.00 per 1k

The next time I went to get primers it was like 80.00 for 1k

I was like What the hell is going on here  ?

I bought 20,000 Federal primers, 15,000 large pistol and 5,000 small pistol several years ago, sometime around 2019! I paid about $300.00 for ‘em!

I had to run down to my gunsmith, who loaded my Black Powder cartridges in those days, and I was supposed to bring a thousand primers with me.

I got about halfway there and realized that I’d forgotten to grab the brick of primers and I stopped in at a big gun store that was on the way!  I walked in and headed to where they were kept, only to see a clerk putting new price stickers on the boxes. I reached for a box of 1000 and when I saw the price, I immediately put ‘em back! $43.95 a box for Federals!!

I asked the owner why the big jump in price and he said that I could take or leave ‘em. I told him that I could drive back to my house and pick them up for less money and walked out!!  My gunsmith had plenty and I just replaced ‘em when I saw him the next time!

Last summer, I bought 5000 at $200.00 and it hurt a little, but that STILL wasn’t as bad the gun store that I never went back to. I might have gone back if the guy had been polite and explained.

That store got closed down and was bought by the Barrett family!!  I’ll get back there soon.

I was 6 in 1970. In Jan/Feb 2020, I bought 50 cases of Federal Primers wholesale from Ellett Brothers. No shipping or hazmat bc it was 30 minutes from me.

I think I sold them for $35/1,000 or $175/case. Profit was maybe $45/case. Didn’t need a lot of profit because I could turn them over quickly. Now? Ellett Brothers is out of business, another supplier Big Rock out of business.  My cost? Is what I can buy them retail on sale… last time I looked it was about $63/1000.

Hugs!

Scarlett

just got a catalog from natchez and they have winchester small pistol for 53/1k. prices are still slowly trickling down but i don't think they will go much lower. I do believe now is the time to start building your horde again as they are plentiful, there WILL be another shortage eventually.   My goal is at least a 2-year supply sitting on the shelves at all times.

I still have TWO bricks (1000 per brick) that I got back in the 70's that are priced at

$7.95 per brick.   And both are CCI Large Pistol Magnum.    Their 'lot number' is..... C13F.

Just an FYI.  Many states regulate the amount of primers you can store in a residence.  For Example, Washington State only allows 10,000.  Now one could say, well who is going to check?  Probably no one, but if you had a fire, insurance on the house might be void.

To keep things in perspective in 1970 I was earning $1.10 an hour.

In 1969 I was making $105/week and that $5 was added to my paycheck to pay for parking.
