Pat Riot Posted February 27 Posted February 27 I hear state prison dentures aren’t all that great. In Oregon and California people at outdoor remote shooting area were getting robbed of their guns. When I moved to WV I tend to carry a gun with me out to change targets. A range buddy asked why I do that. I told him about OR and CA. He said he never considered that happening. He now carries a gun to change targets if he’s at the range alone. 3 2 Quote

Gotta be honest, that's the last place I'd expect to be robbed. It's really getting ridiculous. 2 Quote

In Oregon that occurred twice in 2014 or 2015, I am pretty sure. The gun owners were killed. In CA it happened a variety of times from 1990 on. Also, I just remembered a robbery at an indoor range parking lot. I think that was in 2019. A guy got robbed as he was putting his guns in his trunk. I don't recall if he was harmed. 2 Quote
Sgt. C.J. Sabre, SASS #46770 Posted February 27 Posted February 27 When I'm at an actual Gun Range, I'm not so worried about it. But when I'm just out poking holes in the dirt, No matter how many guns I'm shooting, I always keep one gun loaded and on my person "just in case". The neighborhood isn't the best place to live, but I've never had any trouble. The people who live here are alright, but the bums passing through can be "questionable" at best. However, since I never leave the house not carrying, and I open carry, I think that they've got a pretty good idea that this isn't the place to start anything. 1 Quote
Rip Snorter Posted February 27 Posted February 27 Platt & Mattix of Miami Shootout noteriety got some of their guns, and cars as well just that way, ambushing recreational shooters. 1 Quote
Forty Rod SASS 3935 Posted February 27 Posted February 27 Boy, the news-idiots got it right: call 911 or go to a police station. Why? Because you aren't competent and can't defend yourself...and you won't get hurt if you don't fight back. This BS is being broadcast all over the place and some morons actually believe it. If someone tries to rob me they will get shot...and I might, too...and I'll do what I have to do to survive and take the consequences if necessary. 2 Quote
Crazy Gun Barney, SASS #2428 Posted February 27 Posted February 27 Official ranges are ok. Out in the desert or up in the mountains at an "unofficial range"... absolutely always have a loaded gun on me. That is what holsters are for. There was an "approved" shooting place in Azusa Canyon called Pidgeon Ridge. When I was way little, you could drive up, but then they made it a hike up to try to limit the amount of beer that made it up there. Basically this was just a dirt road up from the main road thru the canyon. About 1/4 mile up there was a red post and you were free to shoot past that red post. During the day it was a rough place, lot of drinking and shots going all directions. We would drive up in the dark and hike up just about as the sun came out. Get our shooting done and then hike back down early just as the big groups were coming up. Usually 2 guys carrying a bunch of guns and the rest of the group carrying the coolers full of drink. My dad's rules were that both of us had loaded sidearms and at least one of us had to have a loaded rifle or shotgun in hand. Was fun at the time (I was a teenager by that point), but I dont think I would be going up there now if it was still open. They closed it down a long time ago. 1 Quote
