Stupidity.  At least it was sans fuel.  No way I would want one of those things in my backyard.  And they (Gov't) are bypassing the Nuclear  safety agency's.  Mega Stupid.

What's next??  Maybe tiny Black Holes for trash disposal??

Nuclear reactors in orbit. Great way to power an ion driven spacecraft.  Couple years ago Skunkworks put out a very quite press release they thought the could create a fusion reactor the size of a connex within 10 years.

Pretty sure the military nukes have a very strong safety record,

Since the first nuclear submarine Nautalus was launched, the Navy has had hundreds of reactors aboard ships, and their failure rate is ZERO. I don't know the exact design of the microreactors, but they are probably nowhere as big as the aircraft carrier Gerald Ford's. Neither are the minireactors likely to produce a Chernoble or even Three Mile Island. As far as reactors in space are concerned, there is work going on to eventually develop nuclear-thermal high thrust and nuclear-electric rockets to get us to Mars twice as fast as chemical propulsion.  For those really afraid of these power sources, just order your aluminum hats. If you want to worry, worry about countries like Iran and North Korea with bombs and missiles capable of reaching the U.S. Hopefully, Iran's capabilities will be reduced to zero shortly.

Pebble bed reactors are really hard to make go critical. You have to really try to screw em up

The small portable nuke plants are a game changer for our power needs, if the powers that be let them run.

Enlisted ratings who stand watch on the power plants of nuclear powered vessels are in the their late teens and early 20s. The senior ratings, supervisors, are old men in their late 20s and early 30s.

Now that would be cool! No more trash bags or garbage cans! 🤠

That we've had decades of small nuclear reactors being run by kids not long out of high school without an incident.

We have also been launching satellites that run on nuclear power for about half a century without mishap. Decommissioned satellites are brought down at Point Nemo,

(48°52.6′S 123°23.6′W)

many with nuclear power, without  mishap

Okay, we got that cleared up.  I didn't read it that way and thought you were making a derogatory comparison.

Sorry.

'S OK. I wasn't quite sure of what you meant,  either.
