Rip Snorter Posted February 18 Posted February 18 Been many years - 2 shots. At one point they sold a practice kit. Can't recall the details, link. https://www.kimberamerica.com/pepper-blaster 1 Quote
DeaconKC Posted February 18 Posted February 18 Don't use a gel pepper spray, cons practice scraping it off and throwing it back in your face. Use a stream type. 2 Quote

Bear spray has a 30'-40' range. Peppy spray is maybe half of that. Bear spray works on dogs, yotes, and wolfs much better than pepper spray does. 2 1 Quote
H. K. Uriah, SASS #74619 Posted February 18 Posted February 18 I have CCW permits from 4 states. They cover most of the country. I avoid the places where none of them are valid. When I was making my Arizona to Ohio road trips, the only place I traveled through that it wasn't was Illinois. Since that only consisted of about a 120 mile of I-70, I filled my gas tank in St. Louis Mo. so that I wouldn't HAVE to stop, secured my guns as required by law, and drove straight through to Indiana. As for everywhere on the trip, every state I drove through was an "Open Carry" state, and I did. I received many compliments, too. Out of 50 states, my Arizona is honored by 39. Since I don't have any reason to visit any of the states that don't honor it, I don't foresee a problem. The only place I could ever see myself going in those states, would be to visit the Los Angles Fire Dept. Museum to see the vehicles used in the T.V. show "Emergency", and to visit the Ronald Reagan Library to see Kurt Russel's guns from "Tombstone". And I SERIOUSLY doubt that I'll do that. I'd prefer a .357 to either of my previous suggestions. 😀 Agree, it's on everyone to check the local laws where they will be traveling. In many areas having a baseball bat in your vehicle is suspect unless it is accompanied by gloves and balls and maybe a uniform... I simplify things and just don't travel to places that aren't free. 2 Quote

Texas Joker Posted February 19 Posted February 19 If your leather wallet chain Also has all your keys for home and work on one end it's a convenient way to store them. as a softball aficionado travelling with your bat ball and glove allows you to participate in pickup games. If you like golf always keep a couple clubs around. I find the stupid tire wrench included in new cars is sub par so I usually buy an old school lug wrench that fits my lugs. Renting bikes at your destination is a fun way to see the sites. Since you don't want a rented bike to get stolen having a chain and lock is convenient. 2 Quote

Cypress Sun Posted February 19 Posted February 19 I used to know a guy that carried a heavy sock in one pocket and a roll of quarter in another while flying commercially. This was pre-911, I don't know if it's possible to do that these days, I doubt it. 1 Quote

FOPA is in the laws there as an affirmative defense. So something decided by a judge, not an officer at the side of the road. I too have heard stories, not sure an arrest has happened without some other reason, but a definite sense certain places are not 2A-friendly, downright hostile might even be a better description. If I do not have anything else available as an option, I carry a ball point pen. 1 Quote

Even if the judge eventually throws the charge out, NYC will still punish people by seizing the gun and forcing them to spend a lot of money on a defense attorney. Trying to fight in a trial risks jail time and spending time in jail while spending huge amounts of money on appeals. And without wading into politics, we've seen any number of judges recently handing down rulings they know will get thrown out at the circuit or Supreme Court level. On edit: I've had reason to travel from CT to VA multiple times. I take the long way around to avoid NJ completely. The bonus is avoiding the inevitable traffic across the Tappan Zee or the George Washington bridges. I drive no more than 5 miles over the limit on clear/dry roads and there are no stickers or anything else that would even remotely suggest that there might be a firearm in the vehicle. Family circumstances require me to stay in Connecticut. Edited February 19 by Chantry 1 Quote

One of the main reasons I settled in Arizona was the gun freedom we have here. I decided on Arizona back in 1990 when the Marine Corps decided that they no longer need my services. Back then, Arizona was just about the only state where Open Carry was not only legal, but done by the citizenry. We didn't have CCW laws yet, but Open Carry was fine. Since then, of course, most states have CCW, and many now also recognize Open Carry, as I referred to in a previous post. 2 Quote

TN Mongo, SASS #61450 Posted February 19 Posted February 19 (edited) I've gotten into the habit of always checking on what weapons are legal to carry/have in car every time we travel. The wife and I both have our state's "enhanced carry permits" that make us legal to carry in +/- 30 other states. I also carry the largest folding knife allowed. My "non-gun loving" offspring carry police strength pepper spray. My son carries an Asp collapsible baton and my petite daughter favors a push dagger on a neck lanyard or the nice OTF switchblade she got for Christmas. Ohio didn't have a CCW until 2008, and Constitutional Carry until 2022. While Open Carry was Legal since the 1890, if you tried it you would be arrested for Posing a Public Threat until about the mid 20teens when Gun Rights Activists brought it to the attention of the public that it IS legal, and even then there were a lot of, um, misunderstandings with LEOs. By the time I started making my roadtrips back there in 2018, it was not an issue, and I carried while there until I stopped going in 2022. NOW Ohio is gun friendly. When I left, it wasn't. 2 Quote

Concealed carry in OHIO was enacted on 2004, that’s when I got mine. If you opened carry you might get hassled but only by a LEO that didn’t know any better or if someone reported you for causing a panic. If you ever got arrested, you’d be out very quickly! It actually happened to a friend of mine, he was out in a couple hours! 1 Quote

EASY there Rye, I'm not trying to start anything. I'm simply saying that I love Tucson more that I loved Ohio. That, and I don't have any family that I've got any use for, I've not seen most of them since my Dad's funeral in 1996, except my ex-sister who screwed my out of my inheritance. The only friend I have back there can't even be bothered to so much as emule me more than once or twice a year, and NEVER calls me, even though when we were kids, we spent many of our formative years in each other's back pocket. I love the desert weather here. I can deal with 105 degree heat far better than 30 degree cold. I HATE rain and don't care for snow either. Right now, February 19th it's about 61 degrees here, and that's a relatively cool day here. I traveled the world and much of the United States while a Marine, and have survived rainforest, sub-zero, moderate climates, Rain and fog, as well as desert. I like the desert. I'm not saying that Ohio is not a fine place to live, it's just not where I want to live. 1 Quote

It seems to me you’re kind of putting down Ohio. I really couldn’t care less where you want to live to be honest. This topic needs to go back to the original subject not where you want to live!
