sassnetguy50 Posted January 27 Posted January 27 Walmart has been testing the camera recognition software for a while. The article left out that those targeted ads follow you home. The item you debated about in the store will be advertised to you on your phone or computer. Quote

WD Farren Posted January 27 Posted January 27 (edited) Cell tower knows where your phone is at all times. What you choose to believe is your business. You are being tracked: a fact. There is a process that tracks you: a fact. Leave your phone home and see if you are tracked. Next, leave your credit cards home and see if you are tracked. Last, cover your face to prevent use of facial recognition software. Edited January 27 by WD Farren 1 Quote

There’s a good chance that the vehicle you’re driving can be tracked also. 3 Quote

Blackwater 53393 Posted January 27 Posted January 27 Anything with active Bluetooth can, and probably is being tracked by someone or something. Anything that can send or receive WiFi can, and probably is being tracked. I keep my tracking/location on my phone shut off and I turn off Bluetooth and WiFi when I am not using them, but I suspect that they are still active on some level. My cell phone connects automatically to my hearing aids by Bluetooth when the units are in the same vicinity unless the Bluetooth is turned off and the same when I get into the Buick. It requires “pairing” to make use of it, but they detect each other regardless of whether they are paired or not. If you’ve ever gone into a building and used your cell phone, the WiFi there will pick up on it and ask if you’d like to use their system! If you don’t believe that they can and are tracking you, you’re head is buried in the sand!! 2 Quote

Walmart uses their data to pick ads when you visit their website. The data is also sold so other sites can market those products to you. It is not an ad for Walmart as a store. It is personalized marketing on websites, not pop up ads. Edited January 27 by sassnetguy50 Quote

What you receive when you go to their website is tailored to your personal profile. A profile developed from collecting data from your shopping history and habits. They also retain memory of whatever you look at when browsing their inventory. If you’ve ever used a credit or debit card in the course of business with them, they’ve stored that information and if your phone was with you when you were in their store, they have even more information! If you have excellent ad blocking capabilities and software, you may not see those ads, but you’re still seeing more of what they know you’re prone to view and purchase. *my pants are no more or less smart than anyone else’s and what alternate location your head might occupy will not be discussed here* 🤣 2 Quote

That doesn’t mean that they’re not tracking your cellular phone and building a data base for future use or selling your data to someone else. I attended a few cellular, I guess you’d call them focus groups in the late 1970’s and early 80’s when cellular was in its infancy and had barely been built out. I remember seeing stick figure drawings and stuff on a white board or projector of this stick figure walking through traffic with a little phone stuck in his ear. Another one was of this stick figure texting and walking across a busy street. This was 40 some years ago and I see that kind of stuff every day now in real life. Even back then they projected that the cellular and vehicle tracking and data gathering would be inescapable. If your car or truck has that funny little antenna on the roof your car can be tracked. If you’re using a navigation system in your car it can be tracked. Just because you’ve never got an ad from Walmart on your cellular phone doesn’t mean that they’re not keeping track of your purchasing habits. 2 Quote

Rye Miles #13621 Posted January 28 Posted January 28 them. What is normally happening Your phone company knows roughly where your phone is when it connects to cell towers. That’s how calls and texts work. Apps you allow (maps, weather, ride-share, social media) can use location only if you’ve given permission. Apple/Google collect limited data for things like Find My, backups, and security—this is heavily regulated and not someone watching you live. not normally happening ❌ Someone secretly watching your location in real time ❌ Random people or the government listening to you through your mic ❌ Continuous tracking without your permission or a court order That stuff requires malware, physical access to your phone, or a very serious legal warrant. It’s rare. Quote
Eyesa Horg Posted January 28 Posted January 28 The GMC app on my phone knows where my truck is in real time. Click on map and in moments there it is and you can watch it moving. It has a few seconds delay in updating as it will arrive in my garage and the map shows it about 100 feet back by the driveway corner! It's sorta fun once in a while!! One day Ellie went to some cemetery training down state for the day. She texted when she was on her way back over a 2 hour trip. About an hour later I get a text that she needed to pee, I went into the app and told her that there was a convenience store about 5 miles ahead and she said thanks!! A couple days later it dawned her to ask how I knew where she was!! Was funny at the time. Both of us a sick as a dog with something at the moment and she went out yesterday for drugs. She getting ads for what she bought at Kinney Drug. There's always somebody watching these days. 🤒 1 Quote
