Winter weather alert for basically the entire Bible Belt, from Texas to the Carolinas. Ice storms with probable power outages (some long lasting) and heavy snow is forecast for the area starting tomorrow thru the weekend. Y'all might want to make sure that generator is ready to go! Probably best just to stay home and try to stay warm for the next few days!

Good luck folks.

East Tennessee. The last predicted storm turned out to be a nothing burger. This means nothing for the next predicted storm or two. Here in the mountains, it can be nothing or shut the area down for a week or more.

Even though I have a generator, I am getting the backup generator out tomorrow and firing it up just to make sure I have backup for backup. And for the RV which is a smaller last resort space. Grocery shopping is done, I could last a month other than running out of wine in a bit over a week. Yes, taking a chance on that...

Back in 2015, I moved here from the west coast trying to stay ahead of an ice storm out of the west. It overtook me and I spent days in a hotel waiting for it to pass. Then finally could head out behind it. I found an amazing number of uncleared wrecks and overturned trucks on the road those last couple days. Still could not get to my mountain cabin for a few days after that as the mountain was not drivable.

Weather generally follows an 11 year cycle (technically 22 years, 2 half cycles times 11 years) plus or minus a year. May not be this year, might be any time in the next two, but "the merde" will return.

Thanks for the well wishes. My local club has canceled this weekend matches. Supposed to get ice starting Friday and ending sometime Sunday.  The multi day annual I was going to this weekend down near Houston has been postponed one week. They had 100 registered from all over and did a poll via email and then gave the notice today. Now I will get to go shoot it!

... Houston ...

I looked at radar and do not see it, but looked at the forecast for there and the freeze after the precipitation (predicted but which I still do not see on radar) has a real chance of making things dicey Sunday if not sooner. This is not as dramatic at this point as my 2015 experience but the  forecast is shaping up to make it at least uncomfortable. At best, the power bills next month are going to sting a bit. Especially for Texas due to the regulatory framework there (unless it got fixed, it needed fixing).

I’m in Fort Worth and club is in Cleburne,  don’t want to travel through the ice trying to come home Sunday. The annual in Magnolia was going to be 90% rain and temp starting in 20s rising to 40s Saturday and 40% Sunday starting in teens.

In NE Ohio it looks like we’re gonna miss the brunt of it. We’ll get a few inches and the brutal cold though. The next two weeks are going to be in the teens and 20’s UGH 😩

i much prefer pur snow to your ice - ive been in the south when an ice storm set in , it was not a pleasant experience but i did manage to drive from OK city to Enid while seeing multiple cars in the ditch on I35 , you just have to have experience driving in that to know , still will not willingly go out in any of it if i can avoid it ,

Looks like we’re gonna get about 6-8” up here in NE Ohio, no problem!😳

Our high for Saturday is not expected to get out of the negatives!🥶 They don't know on the snow yet, we might be far enough north to not get it too bad!

Now predicting 2°!

We seem to be right in the bullseye here in central Maryland.  The are calling for close to 20" of snow with a round of Ice (Freezing Rain) to finish it off.  When that finishes sometime Sunday night the temps are supposed to plummet and we are not expected to see temps above freezing for the next week or so.  They are already talking about schools being closed through Wednesday of next week and we haven't even gotten the first flake, well unless you count all the flakes in the Maryland Legislature and on School Boards....

I told Holli we should leave for Florida right after she finishes work on Friday.  We'd be there in time to shoot with the Doodle Hill Gang on Sunday!  :P

Connecticut. About a 1/2" last night, possibly 12"-18" Sunday into Monday. A significant storm, but not going to break any records. The extreme cold is the bigger threat.

As always, we're right on the snow/ice line. Could go either way.

Test fired the generator yesterday.  Plenty of petrol on hand.

I will take Snow over Ice any day of the week.

(No, not that ICE, those guys are OK in my book, it's the Ice (or freezing rain that forms Ice) that falls from the sky that is the problem!)

Likewise.   Forecasts are leaning more ice now.

Just made a run to the store (needed sausage).  Still plenty of loaf stock and non-skid (didn't hit the cow pop aisle).  I bet it won't be that way this time tomorrow.

I don’t think the weather guessers have any idea what WILL happen! In the morning, I’ll take Ol’ Green and fill up and pick up ten or fifteen gallons of diesel for the big space heater. We’ve filled the Buick up this afternoon!

We’ve got two double eyed propane heaters and they’re mounted on tanks that are topped off.  I have a small generator in the compressor shed and another propane setup for heating or cooking. Ain’t gonna have to worry about keeping things cold. It’s not “supposed” to be above freezing all next week except for a few hours on Wednesday!

Vehicles are all serviced and have good tires and warm stuff for cold weather on board, as well as gear for emergencies.

Thanks, yup, got the generator checked out and got gas for it too.

The low that's going to cause all the problems is still on the coast of California.

Trusting you on this (actually likely). I looked again today and still do not see it but am taking it seriously. Did even get a few more groceries today as the local chain sent me a good coupon ($20 off a $200 purchase, so a lot of laundry detergent and toilet paper, cans of tuna and same for tomatoes, a bunch of burgers to put in the freezer, coffee filters for the next couple years, lots of pasta.). And some milk and 1/2&1/2 so I won't have to go out before next Wednesday. I'll certainly be getting "house fever" by then.

Pro tip from someone in snow country - The wipers on your vehicle have a hinge for a reason.  Get the wipers up and the blades off the windshield or they will freeze on.

Satire from the Babylon Bee. This pretty much sums up the local tv coverage from the weather guessers in my home town. They’ve been at “OMG!!!” general quarters since Wednesday. I mean really, weather like this has been a staple of this area since like, forever. Reality? We might get 3”-4” over a couple of days. Maybe, but much likely less. Sigh…

ill admit that if they predicted that here we would assume they were telling us everything is normal winer , but having been in OKC when one of these came through i can say they are not ready for it ever ,

i drove I-35 from OKC to enid in one of these storms , lots of cars and trucks in the ditch , my IL plated truck had no problem as id been driving in that since i had my ;learners permit in IA - that was the early 60s when we had winters there , couple days everything was normal [for there] and i had to fly home to quad cities and -10 F

speaking of -10F , thats where were were most of the day here today and will be close the rest of the weekend , -20F right now may go a little lower overnight - i hate this time of year but not quite as much as i hate the holidays from Halloween to new years - for different reasons

0 here today, sunny and no wind. Snow coming late tonight and all day tomorrow. They’re predicting 8-10” in my area maybe a little less. No problem, it’s going up to 20 tomorrow! Yippee!!!! 🤠

Had half of a beef delivered this morning from a local outfit.  If the power goes out and stays out long enough that I burn all 30 gals. of generator gas, I guess we'll roll the freezer outside and open the door.

Forecasting 0° Monday night/Tuesday morning.  ZERO!  🥶  This is North Carolina, not North Pole. Would you folks up north close the blame door!

Truck and trailer loaded and in position to head out the drive. We were hoping to leave for AZ on Monday. We'll see.

My daughter and son-in-law are leaving Flat Rock, NC early Tuesday next week to come visit me in Central AZ for 7 days.

Mother Nature wouldn't dare mess with this family.  They'll be alright.
