Larsen E. Pettifogger, SASS #32933 Posted January 21 Posted January 21 (edited) I started shooting SASS in 95 but did not join until 2000.  Look how much SASS grew in the four years from 96 to 2000.  #13621 to 32933.  I won a free SASS membership at Railhead in 95.  Wish I had sent that in.  😃 Edited January 21 by Larsen E. Randy Saint Eagle, SASS # 64903 Posted January 21 Posted January 21 I shot my first match in February 2005, it was also the first SASS Match I had ever seen and I was a nervous wreck. 🤠 Randy 7 1 Quote

Griff Posted January 21 Posted January 21 (edited) You can't really go by your membership # for an accurate read of when you joined... as, in the mid '90s several folks were given blocks of numbers to speed up membership drives in various parts of the country.  #s weren't assigned in strict numerical order. My wife & I joined as "Endowment Members" just before, EOT in 1997 requesting #s 92 & 93. My wife didn't get #92 as Blue Eyes had also requested that #, so Tex, who'd just joined the Wild Bunch and was given a new # befitting his new status, gave Griff's Girl #14, his old #. When she passed away, she'd asked for her # to pass to our son, who then donated his #1111 and alias (Four Aces), for an auction to benefit the Scholarship Fund.   Edited January 21 by Griff 3 Quote
Frontier Lone Rider Posted January 21 Posted January 21 I had never heard of this sport in West Virginia until I was about ready to retire, 2011. A group in the next county decided to start a club. Only two of the original group had ever been to a match. It has since folded, but a few of us are still running strong, at least I think I am. 3 Quote

Whatever the answer this is a mighty big accomplishment already. 1 Quote

No not all State Matches, to count they just need to be a match shot in that state. In the thread I have a listing of all the clubs I have shot at in each state and what kind of match it was. They include a 1 day monthly, and multi day: club annuals, states, regionals, nationals, and world championships. 5 Quote
Rye Miles #13621 Posted January 21 Author Posted January 21 I’ve only been to 6 states including my home state of Ohio. Michigan, Pennsylvania, Kentucky, West Virginia, South Carolina . They were all state shoots. 4 Quote
Sixgun Seamus Posted January 21 Posted January 21 Joined in 2012. First match was June 2012. Drug Kay (kicking and screaming) to a match in 2013. Something clicked and the rest is history. Weve shot over 500 matches at 42 different venues in 18 states. 8 Quote
Ciderbarrel Posted January 21 Posted January 21 (edited) In 2023, I bought a .38 super 1911, with the intention of shooting USPSA.  The local FFL doing the transfer is a cowboy and thought I should check out some SASS matches since I already had "the whiskers for it."  I watched a few monthly matches in the summer of 2023, got my life membership in August 2023 and shot my first match the Sunday after Thanksgiving 2023.  About 15 months ago, I moved to the dark side and started shooting Frontiersman, especially at state matches.  I went from almost dead last in the overall standings at the November 2024 NC state match, as a Frontiersman, to being the 1st place Frontiersman at the August 2025 VA state match.  I never shot any USPSA matches and that 38 super is just sitting in the safe. 🤣 Edited January 21 by Ciderbarrel 10 Quote

Yul Lose Posted January 22 Posted January 22 My first match was in December 2006 with The Cowboys in Norco, Ca. as an observer and new shooter school attendee and I was hooked. I guess what attracted me more than the guns, hats and attire were the gun carts. I spent most of the match after the new shooter class checking out all of the gun carts and it seemed like no two were the same. I spent the next few months designing and building my first gun cart and took it to my first EOT in 2007 in New Mexico and won Best Gun Cart. 89 gun carts later I still lay awake at night thinking of another gun cart that I’d like to build. I’ve gotten a commitment from a pard that wants gun cart #100 but I doubt that will happen. 4 Quote

High Spade Mikey Wilson Posted January 22 Posted January 22 I think my first match was in October of 2009, which was shot as a wild bunch because those were the firearms I had at the time. By mid 2010 I had cowboy firearms, and have shot cowboy ever since. 2 Quote
