Don't disagree about it generally being a good investment over time. OTOH, when you start dealing with additional expenses in maintenance over the years, as we used to say when I was a Realtor, "Anyone that owns their own home deserves it!" Take that anyway you mean it!:o:P

We had our house built (a quarter of a century ago!) -- the day we received the keys, we went through our brand new, empty, full-of-possibilities house, we held hands and jumped up and down like two excited kids in EVERY LAST ROOM IN THE HOUSE and the basement as well!
Our only disappointment was that, during construction, the contractor stored his Bobcat loader in the attached garage, and the loader didn't come with the house.

Darn.

The night of that happy day when we got the keys, we mentioned our happiness to a good friend at a meeting.

He gave us a knowing look and offered, "You think you own your house. You'll find your house owns you!"

May Fortune smile on your offer!

good luck and prayers in for this to work out for you , ive been in my house for 35 years and i will admit even with all this time and all the "things" its been good , i do remember the stress leading up to closing - might be better today but back then it was a difficlut time , hope everything goes smoothly for you but dont loose sight of the prize -

this house is the last i think ill live to enjoy , but ive owned four before - i dont miss any but the first only because it was the first and a good house - i never finished everything id planned to do to that one , but i left the plans and the next owners did the rest , ive only one room in this house ive not redone completely , its on my list to start soon , but im using that bathroom as my reloading room right now and am reluctant to give it up - need to find a space to move that into ,

You are renting your home from the property tax collector on a long term basis.

You will get regular increases on that rent as the years go by.

Everyone pays property taxes. If you are a homeowner, you see it directly. If you rent, property taxes are baked into the rental amount.

Same with all the maintenance.  When you own it, you see it directly. For renters it's included in the rent.

My former manager has a lot of rental houses. One year there was a big bond measure up for vote. When he sent out the rental increase notices there were two different possible increases. One if the bond passed and a low amount of it didn't.  He got a lot of calls about why the increase would be greater if the bond passed.  Most had a hard time comprehending that "THEY" would be paying for the increase because they didn't realize that they were paying property taxes abet indirectly.

the taxes as stated above are paid by all - some is burred in rent cost , you cant escape paying it , good thing about owning is your not likely to be evicted nor irritated by neighbors , but you will see the real tax on what the government does to exist ...yes they do good , but yes there are things you fund you might not choose to given the chance to say so ,

if you live in my state you are funding fraud as well - oh but those dollars were national so you all funded=d our fraud , i guess we all should be upset with this - basicaly the government should not be doing these things - its deeper than that though , government officials got money , private individuals got money , some non proffit organizations got money and foreign terrorist organizations got money ...............this as to end - needs to be investigated , prosecuted and incrassated [id execute if i had my way] but im not making the calls

Owning your own home and feeling like you are part of the community is a good thing.  Yes, it costs money but it's not all about the monetary return on investment.  Congratulations on the new house.

Always wondered why none property owners get to vote on bond issues.

For those of you that haven't looked recently, check what rent is and what you are getting, property & neighborhood wise for the money.  I know it's way higher than it used to be.   I live in a condo (essentially) an 8 unit, 1 bedroom apartment building.  Rent is more than twice my condo fee and mortgage.

You can save a bundle if you shop for a used Washer/Dryer on fb marketplace. I’ve seen like new sets for less than half the price of new.

Never tried their appliances. We’ve had good luck with their electronics, like TV’s, stereos and radios.
