After receiving complaints about a PIF (Public Improvement Fund) charge at local stores a Colorado TV station investigated and found this is spreading throughout the state.  The libs cannot find enough ways to screw people out of their money.

They might charge me once.  After that, I'll be taking my business elsewhere.

I'd be returning the item(s) to the store, getting my money back, tell them they could shove the PIF where the sun doesn't shine and then never return to the store. Although it wasn't just Target that is charging the PIF, I haven't set foot in a Target store in almost 20 years due to their company philosophy.

When they put out LGBT clothing for children that did it for me! Never again! Their prices were never that great either!

We have them out here.  I thought it had to do with the shopping center the Target is in.  I guess not.

The peculiar thing, having dealt with them as a vendor years back before I retired, is that their sales analytics were excellent.  I doubt their abilities have declined - they must know the cost of what they are doing!

The problem is 99% of their customer base will just say “Ok” and keep buying…

The way I read the video is that the developer of the site that the store sits on has made an agreement with the individual stores to charge the PIF to "improve" and "maintain" the site somewhat like what an HOA does. I imaging that the majority of the money collected does not return via "improvements" but rather gathers in the coffers of the developer for use in other investments or they just skim off the top into their pockets.

Doesn't matter to me, I would never knowingly pay it and would shop elsewhere but I can honestly state that I've never seen anywhere around here....but I am going to start scrutinizing my receipts more carefully.

For me it was when Target corporate made it clear that they did not support our troops. By the time they did the LGBT stuff I had already stopped visiting their stores for a long period of time prior to that.

Most people don't know and most of the rest simply don't care.  It would require them to DO SOMETHING beside bitching about it and blaming others....but they just won't get up from the TV to do anything other than bitch and get another beer.

Unless they are illegal buy state law it is likely that retailers in malls are charging them.  The only advantage for the purchaser is that sales tax isn't likely charged on the PIF.

Check a Walmart that isn't in a mall.

Or buy on-line from Amazon or other on-line retailer that doesn't charge shipping.

Unbelievable! Thanks for the heads up. I fully embrace that I am becoming a curmudgeon, but this type of garbage has got to stop.

I'm tired of being guilted into leaving a tip on a computer screen when I purchase a cup of coffee or being asked to donate to some cause almost every time I check out at a retail store. We are fortunate in Tennessee not to have a state income tax, but sales tax is close to 10% after the county gets a cut along with the state. Thankfully the wife and I escaped from our "tax happy" Northern state decades ago.

CA, CO and UT have ganged up on the consumer by implementing restrictive nanny laws for water heaters.

I can no longer buy a 50 gallon, 40,000 BTU to replace my failed unit.

I have to drive to Nevada to buy one as they are banned in these three states now.
