The image below is a picture of a shotgun being sold as a Winchester model 12.  I have never seen a model 12 with anything other than a "corncob" forend.  Is this gun legal for Wild Bunch?

That appears to be a model 12.

Model 12s are not required to have the corn cob forend. In fact, none of my competition model 12s have one.

Looks to be PERHAPS a  Black Diamond grade Model 12.  But I don't see the inlaid black diamond in the grip area.  Anyway, pretty fine woodwork on it.  That would explain the long fore end, skip checkering on butt and a grip cap.   Definitely a higher grade model 12.

And it is NOT a Model 25, since this one has the take-down barrel.  Nor is it a featherweight Model 12.

Might want to post up the serial number (with last three digits starred out).   And any markings on the barrel.

Make sure it is not marked as a 3" chambered Duck Gun.  Those are hard to run in Wild Bunch because they are tuned to run 3" shells.

good luck, GJ

From the Wild Bunch Shooters Handbook:

"The Winchester model 1897 and model 12 pump in 12 gauge, civilian or military style are allowed."

MOD 12s where made in a variety of grades and intended uses , it looks a trap/sporting clays model to me , a bit to nice to just be a duck gun or upland field gun although it could be ,

i had a much later mad 1200 as a kid that was for upland game - pretty but not as pretty as that one

That must have been a higher grade with the fancy wood, pistol grip, grip cap, & checkering. Standard pointed checkering on the fore end and skip checkering on the pistol grip seems odd to me, but maybe it wasn't uncommon.

Another thing you can do is look for the serial number here...

https://www.winchesterguns.com/support/faq/date-your-firearm.html

And more importantly here...

https://winchestercollector.org/dates/

These will sometimes tell you information that Cody does not have.    That said, I'd get a Cody letter if possible.

It’s nowhere near original so it’s not collectible.

I wonder about that.

Yes, being all original will make a "collectable" gun more "valuable."

But you know, even if it's not all original or in pristine condition, an unusual configuration gun like this will still command some value.   It might not be of interest to "hard core investment collectors" but to the guy who wants a Model 12 Trap gun, this gun is a real find.  Partly because it won't cost as much as a "collectable" but partly because it's the male/model he wants.

Collectability means different things to different people.
