theperson Posted January 11 Posted January 11 so i’ve had a schofield for about a year now, i love it to death. but something started happening as of recently, whenever i shoot it the latch unhinges and it opens up. i can’t find any information as to why this is happening, or any fixes, i figured it might be the latch spring but i just need help. (ps i know not to use here loads, i load all of my bullets and i stick to low velocity loads.) IMG_7939.mov
Timothy Posted January 14 Posted January 14 Assuming it once worked correctly I would make sure the screws are tight and clean and degrease the bearing surfaces of the latch and frame to start.

Injun Ryder, SASS #36201L Posted January 14 Posted January 14 My guess would be that the stud latch spring may be damaged/broken. The latch should be a little stiff to pull back. If it is easy to pull back, there is a problem with the spring. If it is a Uberti, see the schematic below (part #640). VTI gunparts may have them. S&W PC 2000 Schofields have a different spring setup and may be available from S&W.

Rooster Ron Wayne Posted January 14 Posted January 14 Biggest problem with that No.3 design , Was people taking to big of a thumb when cocking the gun. Pulling the latch 1/2 way back or more . Then with a light spring , unit coming unhinged . Try watching how you are cocking the gun several times and see if it comes unhinged . Rooster
Abilene, SASS # 27489 Posted January 14 Posted January 14 1. What manufacturer? If it is ASM (Armi San Marco) then it is common with them. Bad guns. 2. Always wear eye protection when shooting.
