Hi Billy,

I have a Johnny Meadows built SKB 200 and I'm asking $1800 .

I also have a Lucky Wheeler built CZ that Shotgun Boogie went through and installed his spring kit and  I am asking $1200.

Billy, unless you have your heart set on a 97, I highly recommend that you contact Fast Eddie for an SKB that's set up correctly and ready to go.  Yes, you'll pay a little more money but you'll get a shotgun that is set up right and backed by one of the best SKB smiths and nicest guys you'll ever meet.

Should you buy used, be very careful.  Ask for very detailed pictures of the overall condition of the metal and wood and pay particular attention to the screw heads.  If the seller will not not supply those then walk away.  If screw slots are buggered up then it's a good indication that someone has been in there with tools bought at a hardware store.  To me, this indicates a willingness to cut corners and brings concern about the quality of care it's received in the past.  Also walk away if the gun has not been cleaned.  Fouling can hide damage.

I've bought several used firearms here and all have gone well.  I prefer used items to look like new and am willing to pay a bit more to get that.  Others might not be that picky but I have found that level of expectation results in my receiving a gun that has been well cared for and works as expected.

To be fair, it may be a matter of perception.  A seller may think there nothing wrong with what he's selling since it's been working well for a long time and he's never cared how it looks.  A buyer may be satisfied with a beat up gun so long as the price is cheap.  I suppose that's okay so long as the buyer is willing to potentially take on a project.

Hope this helps and good luck with your search.

I would agree with Shawnee. I started shooting a 97. I just started shooting a sxs because I couldn’t get quick enough with the 97 and it didn’t feel smooth for me. The sxs coach gun feels so much smoother for me. I would see if you can try them out first.  There is always the 87 lever also. I know here in New England I can get a 87 with the drop two conversion for under 1k

Plus one on the Fast Eddie SKB. I think Charlotte will have at least 1 FE SKB on her table at EOT. I doubt it will last long.

One trick to checking on how much a shotgun has been used is look at the right side of the wood stock.  This will be the side that is upright when a right handed shooter stages it.  Often times the rifle will be shot over the staged shotgun and the brass will fall down and put little moon shaped nicks on the stock.  The more nicks, the longer it's been used in SASS.
