I have an  old Stoeger that's had a lot of rounde's  thu it all B/P  now it's taken to popping open between shot's , it doesn't do it all the time any idea what's going on

The lugs have worn so they no longer completely lock.  It can be repaired by a good smith.  Weld up where it is worn and smooth out.  Also check how far the bar goes into the lug to help avoiding it happening again.

Also for grins, remove the stock and lever latch parts and be sure a piece of shot or other debris hasn't gotten in there.

I have worked on that Lug on a couple of folks Stoegers, seemed to fix their opening after a shot.

mine developed that problem a year ago , my LGS tightened it up and have had no other issues , i think i jusyt shot it enough to open up the action and my grip would force the issue , after he adjusted it its tight and sound , ill get more years out of it without a doubt , 

 

bit im looking to shoot different revolvers 1875 outlaws  [basically 1858s with conversions] and 1860 henry rifle this year for fun so may shoot my hammered double more this year , we shall see
