La Sombra Posted December 31, 2025 Posted December 31, 2025 @Misty Moonshine, I just reviewed the SASS Regional Realignment chart. Thank you for moving Mississippi to the Southern Region. I love shooting Hell on the Border. Of course I enjoyed shooting with North Alabama Regulators for the Southeastern Regional. Again, thanks. La Sombra 1 1 Quote

doc roy l. pain Posted December 31, 2025 Posted December 31, 2025 Good question. I see one club in Arkansas is hosting 2 regionals? Quote

Dogmeat Dad, SASS #48563L Posted December 31, 2025 Posted December 31, 2025 (edited) I seem to recall that there was a map a number of years ago (I went back and checked, it was 2007) where there were a couple of states that were shared among regions. Shooters had to declare which region they were competing in before the match. They could shoot both, but only be the Regional Champion in the one they declared. I can post a picture, but I don't want to confuse/derail the present discussion. Edited December 31, 2025 by Dogmeat Dad, SASS #48563L 'Cause I Don't Spel Two Gud! 4 1 Quote

Cowtown Scout, SASS #53540 L Posted December 31, 2025 Posted December 31, 2025 Don't understand why OK and AR are now shared states instead of just South Region like they were before. Is it just so a club in those two states can host the Plains Region Championship? 2 Quote
C.C. Moonshine Posted December 31, 2025 Posted December 31, 2025 Hello all, Happy New Year to everyone! Yes there will be more electrical at Paradise Pass before the event. Yes you can go to both regionals if you are in the split states. But you can only be the regional champion in one. Yes this was all thought out and discussed in depth prior to launch. Yes this is a similar system as the old map showed above. Yes these new lines were based on changing shifts in SASS memberships by states. Yes SASS is still growing, but in different areas of the country. Have a great holiday weekend and a great start to 2026. 10 14 1 1 Quote

The shared states concept is not new to the SASS Regional program. We had shared states before. Competitors can shoot either match, but must select and declare their Regional championship each year if they reside in a shared state. Misty 4 2 Quote

Sarge Posted January 1 Posted January 1 Thank you SASS. Can't speak for the other regions, but for Michigan, it makes sense for us to be in the Midwest Regional. A 4 hour drive means we'll be there. An 11 hour drive, not much chance. Thanks Misty. 1 Quote

I also know from a business point that there has never been a launch or change where all the issues are worked out beforehand. Things are initiated and then the bugs are worked out down the road. Understood, and thanks! The only change is to the Midwest for 2026. It’ll be up to Paradise Pass as the host club to organize/determine/publish dates and event details. the other Regionals are existing and the same is true for them, just like always. I expect you can look forward to seeing the dates all made final in the coming days after the first of the year. Misty 1 1 Quote

Dogmeat Dad, SASS #48563L Posted January 1 Posted January 1 (edited) First, Happy New Year to one and all! As Cumberland Kid said... On 12/31/2025 at 8:28 PM, The Cumberland Kid said: What I’ve come to realize in my time is that this sports body hates two things: -The way things are -Change I, for one, like the new map. I think it aligns better with the actual regions we all actually consider ourselves living in. Will there be some who dislike this change, Abso_Freeking_Lutely, this is SASS after all! Although it will take some time to readjust, overall I think this will be a good fit but there is a lot of work to be done to get some new matches setup and shuffle a few around a bit in schedule and location. Growth in any sport is not linear, some areas grow while other shrink, but as long as the overall trend is growth, SASS and Cowboy Action will be OK. We here in the Mid-Atlantic region were a hot spot for a long time, with local monthly shoots having 80+ shooters in attendance and the State Matches and N.E.Regional sold out in just weeks after the applications hit the internet, well, once the Internet became a thing... Lately that is not the case as much and, while we are still attracting new shooters, it has certainly slowed, and many of our local shooters have retired and moved to more welcoming states. Sometimes I think I see as many of my "Old Pals" when I visit Florida as I do here at our local shoots! This is not the first, nor will it likely be the last, shuffle of the Regions. It seems to happen every five years, give or take, so it was due. For perspective, I have included copies of several of the Regional Maps from prior years for comparison. There is probably one (or two) that I missed, as I didn't think to archive them all in my earlier days of SASS. I started off believing that you had to qualify to shoot in a State or Above match and I knew that wasn't likely to happen. Little did I know that the only two qualifications were to be an Active SASS Member and that my Check Cleared! I'm optimistic that this will eventually turn out to be a good realignment. Not everyone will be happy, that's an impossible goal, but I am looking forward to seeing the dates for these matches published. One of the hardest things to accomplish is to schedule these big matches during times when the weather is typically good, and so that they do not step on top of any existing Sanctioned Matches, be they State Championship or Club Annuals. The SASS Schedule of matches is pretty full...SASS Match Locator Hopefully, Holli and I will be able to put one or two of these Regional matches on our 2027 Travel Schedule. We are past due to make another trip up to Paradise Pass, we shot the BP Championship match up there twice, so maybe we can make the Regional if the schedule works out. Let's hope that 2026 brings us all a Lot of Cowboy Shootin'! Edit To Add: As @Cowtown Scout, SASS #53540 L noted, I am a little confused about the decision to have Arkansas and Oklahoma be shared states as it would seem that they belong in the Southern Region, but maybe it's just short term. Looking at the Chart of Regional Championships, for 2026 there is not a separate match for the two regions, it appears to be just one match, and I would expect that to change. As for CA and NV, that probably has to do with the number of active members and where they would prefer to shoot, but that is just a guess on my part...
