The OP is talking about personal attacks under the guise of the oft used broad brush of  "It's their/your fault because they/you voted for it."

Yes, but not in all cases.

OK if thats where he is going ill hold back my affirmation , im not sure i want to join in on a pronoun conversation in any way - yall can sort it out ,

i will go on record as agreeing we dont need to be bashing anyone for anything - the MSM does that daily , and the social media is doing it as well , im not on social media nor do i listen to MSM regularly but i do occasionally to see whats being heard , they are quick to convict and bash - yes it would be nice to hear news reported in nothing but researched and checked facts , but i dont see that ever happening in my lifetime ,

today if the Hindenburg blew up they would blame trump and not the german staff running the ship  , they might also suggest that it was jews that caused it - im sick of it , get over it , trumps president - jews are people too , if you dont like it get out of our country .........sorry .......just realised where this was all going and didnt like it

Let's look at what the OP said:

How about we quit bashing the states or countries that some of us live in for a bit? Yes, it enrages me too the stuff some of our whacko politicians stir up, but those members stranded in those states or countries don't need to be dragged through even more grief than they are already enduring.

That isn't 'Stop using a state's idiocy as a 'guilt by association' ploy to attack a resident,' -- although I'll acknowledge there are people who do that.

Instead, the OP is asking people to stop bashing a state because it makes the people living there feel bad.

I get it -- the frustration of being stuck in a place where one is powerless to change or escape the idiocy of the place. And people who are stuck in such states have my sympathy.

What the OP is asking for is called self-censorship, which is the worst kind and exactly what supporters of the states to which he is referring prefer.

As the OP I was honked off because some of our members here almost ran off a valued and active member from Australia because of not having enough common sense and courtesy to know when to shut up.

That sounds a lot like bringing up a something about a state to go after a person, not the issue itself. That's a jerk thing to do, and from some posters, it wouldn't be a surprise.

But hey -- come for the shooting, stay for the people.

So anyway -- if we are going to stop bashing a state out of consideration for the residents there, does that mean they will stop complaining about the situation?

I can tell you from experience that hearing the same stupid and ignorant insults over and over does get very old. Usually it’s from the same players over and over again.
Over time one develops a thick skin but sometimes it becomes too much then a decision needs to be made.

Do you lash out?
Do you try yet again to enlighten the person?

Do you try and ignore the person?

Do you counter with biting humor?

Do you just quit the forum because you’re sick of it?

I can tell you I have considered the last option numerous times in the past. Usually I took a break for a time then came back.

I can’t tell you how many time I have responded to an over used and unimaginative insult by tossing an insult back only to escalate the situation. It does no good because, in my opinion, that is exactly what the person was hoping for. Since you are online and not face to face there is only so much one can do.
It’s obvious we haven’t had active site Moderation in some time. Quite often no one steps in to moderate the situation. Not that people like having a Mommy step in and mediate but sometimes it might be a good thing.

Most of my life I have been “the new kid” in regard to the places I have lived. As a kid I lived in PA, GA. AL(2), NM & AR. In high school alone I went to 5 different schools in 4 years in PA.
As an adult I have lived in PA(2), IL, MN, VA, CA(4), NM, OR, NC & WV.

I got very used to insults about various things, like; my appearance, my clothes, my lineage, my prior living location, my monetary status, my accent, etc.
About the only thing I haven’t been called is the N-word.

Often things were said in jest, but even saying something in jest adds to the pile of insults and slights over time.

Before you say something demeaning about a person and / or where they are from and what you think they should do try and put yourself in their shoes then keep your insult to yourself.
