Alpo Posted December 20, 2025 Posted December 20, 2025 This is based on a television show. But still, I wonder. If you were personal friends with the mayor of New York City, do you suppose you could get a carry permit good for New York City? The show Castle. He is a personal friend of the mayor. Has him on speed dial - "hello Charlene, this is Rick Castle. Is Joe in?" - that kind of thing. On one show, during the course of an investigation, they discover that this man - kind of like "girls gone wild", but I believe they called it "college girls go crazy" on the show - had a carry permit. And Castle is just shocked. "I can't even get a carry permit!" So I wonder - if you were personal friends with the mayor? What does it take to get a carry permit in New York City? Do you have to know somebody? Or is there an actual requirement - a list of things you need to do or have happen?
Sgt. C.J. Sabre, SASS #46770 Posted December 20, 2025 Posted December 20, 2025 Way too much to list myself. Here's a link to Handgunlaw.us which is probably the best source for that sort of thing: https://www.handgunlaw.us/states/newyork.pdf

watab kid Posted December 21, 2025 Posted December 21, 2025 bottom line is dont live in NYC or NY state if you believe in carry , i do , i dont live there , i carry always [okay , most always] its my constitutional right , i hold it dear and i threaten no one that doesn't threaten me , no one has i over 25 years ands ive never drawn my gun , i expect it to stay that way but hey ........... just for S&G where did the the brown U and professor in boston killer get his gun and just how well did those strict laws yall have work out ? he was not a citizen as i understand it , how did he get a gun and how did the current laws prevent it ???>? i think we need to rethink gun laws to protect the law abiding not restrict them nor penalize them , there have been too many gun crimes that have occurred without the ATF reporting on the gun origin and circumstances of the criminals possession of it - lets get real about this situation before passing any more lwas that are ignored except for by ther law abieding gun owners that dont commit crimes im on a soapbox here and ill get off , but its not too much to ask - where did the criminal get the gun and just what law might have prevented it ? my contention is none of them , even if one might apply - they ignored it , you can only address crime after it occurs with these laws - lets look t the real poroblem - people - bad ones - lets figure out how to address that before we ban any more self protection in this country of freedom

We can't have any of that. The simple fact is that the people that make these laws don't give a RIP about the criminals that use them. They DO care about whether the Law abiding citizen does. Because they're afraid that citizens might one day decide to take a stand. They want us disarmed so that it can't happen. Gun Control isn't about guns, it's about control. NYC and NY State are very different. It isn't that hard to get a carry permit in NY State. NYC was very difficult, but it has gotten easier since NYC lost a lawsuit in 2022, although they are doing as much as possible to slow the process down. The is a lawsuit pending over that.
