Alpo Posted December 15, 2025 Posted December 15, 2025 Aside from, as one of the commenters said, it's fear-mongering, he's giving false information. Little table he's got down there says that every time you go anywhere with an SBR you got to fill out that ATM form 5320. That's bull. I live in Pensacola I can go to jacksonville, I can go to Miami, I can go to key West. Take my gun with me. I live in El paso, I can go to Amarillo or I can go to Houston or I can go to Port Arthur. I live in Atlanta I can go to Savannah. No problem. You got to do it when you're crossing state lines. That is nowhere near the same thing as "when you travel with it". He also makes it sound like you have to fill out a new form every time, but the form can be good for up to a year. When you fill it out you tell them how long you want it to be good for. I want to take it to Atlanta for a week. Fine. I tell them a week. I want to take it to El Paso five times in the next year, I have it good for a year. Fine. Makes me wonder how much else is wrong in that article. 1 1 Quote
Colorado Coffinmaker Posted December 15, 2025 Posted December 15, 2025 It's a crying shame IDIOTS can learn to up-load video. Jumping out there when they actually know next to nothing factual. Balderdash!! 1 Quote

Sbr’s are different than silencers and machine guns in that they are configuration dependent to be a sbr. If I assemble a contender (originally a pistol) as a pistol, it’s a pistol, rifle its a long gun, if a pistol barrel and a stock a sbr. Really time to do away with the whole sbr designation. Quote

One thing I noted, while true, gives a false impression. Some states prohibit SBRs which make travel there a no-go regardless of a Fed "permission slip." The false impression is a pistol (braced) config not having the same issue; the states which ban SBRs generally also ban the pistols, and vice-versa. The truth is that if one is banned, the other likely is also. I'm watching the ban cases at SCOTUS, they might open the door to removing all of these restrictions. Not just possession, but travel too. I have heard -- but not verified -- travel across state lines with a suppressor no longer requires the form. Still would have to watch out for states which ban those. I will be sure to check all those details if I planned to travel with some of my items, already do even for my carry handgun. Everything from magazine and ammo restrictions to questions of law such as reciprocity, means of carry restrictions, castle doctrine, stand your ground, duty to inform, etc. Put this a second false impression... There is already a massive patchwork of laws impacting travel with any arms. 1 Quote
Cowtown Scout, SASS #53540 L Posted December 15, 2025 Posted December 15, 2025 (edited) This is also a false statement: "ATF will not allow the CMP to make new receivers and use parts from the M14s to build new rifles. All the parts are now considered machine gun parts." There are several companies that have in the past and some that still make semi-auto M14 receivers and parts BUT real USGI parts (not receivers) from M14s can be used in building semi-auto versions of the M14.
