WD Farren Posted December 14, 2025 Posted December 14, 2025 Tips are a gift. Here in the US the IRS allows up to $18,000 per person tax free gifts. Trump did the right thing by declaring tips as non-taxable. Also in the. US we have the right to find another job. Those not wanting to accept a stipend wage supplemented by tips can find another job. When the employer cannot find hires, he will either pay better or close down.
Pat Riot Posted December 14, 2025 Posted December 14, 2025 I give tips to restaurant workers in non fast food establishments except DQ. I do tip DQ folks. I also tip my barber and the guys at the car wash. I do not tip businesses that choose a pay app that has an “Oh how did that get on there” tip screen. One gun store I used to frequent actually had a tip screen on their kiosk tablet when paying with a credit or debit card. I would usually bypass it until one day the owner really ticked me off. When the tip screen popped up I literally tried to figure out a way to leave a negative tip for the amount of my purchase. It didn’t work…damnit! Also, I will tip tow truck if and when I need their services.
Colorado Coffinmaker Posted December 14, 2025 Posted December 14, 2025 Nope. No "Tip Fatigue". I tip the server for their service at restaurants. Real, sit-down restaurants. I tip the Barista. I tip the staff at the Salon where my sweetheart and I get pampered and I tip the Valet at Disney. That's ALL. Some cretin scamming in a grocery parking lot?? Starve sucker.
Pat Riot Posted December 14, 2025 Posted December 14, 2025 I forgot to mention… When I tip, I tip well and I tip for good service, not slack jawed dipstick service. This also popped into my head after I posted before. I had nearly forgotten about it. When we first moved to WV Awe needed new tires on the Suburban. I chose a store called King Tire (do not patronize) They installed 4 tires and didn’t balance them. I took the truck back. They balanced the tires…or so they said. One tire shook like a Chihuahua at 75+ mph. Back to the store I go. I got this BS that these tires are too big to balance and they’ll take one more stab at it. “You’ll take as many stabs as it takes…” I wanted to say more about stabbing but I felt the feeble minded might see my promise as a threat. They tried again. The #%$&ing thing now shimmied at 65. In the front! Not in the rear where the problem tire was. It was late in the day but I noticed all the center hub covers were all bent up and not installed right. I lost it. My neighbors probably heard my Sailorese rant several houses in each direction. Long story short I had to buy replacement hubs that they would install and reimburse me for. A week later I went to have the center hubs installed and after the idiot “tech” (flunky) that caused all these issues was done he casually mentioned that tips were accepted there. WHAT?!!! “I have a tip for you dumbass. Don’t ever say another word to me or I might just put a foot in your a**!” I left from there and went to another Tire store and had them rebalance everything and make sure the idiots at King Tire didn’t break anything else. That store has been my tire and maintenance store ever since.
