Crazy Gun Barney, SASS #2428 Posted December 8, 2025 Posted December 8, 2025 Always love when I get a package from Starline! Brand new brass is so pretty! 38 Long Colt for my 51 Navies, I got the kirst cylinders last week but havent modified the frames yet. But that has popped up to the top of my to-do list, with loading up this brass a real close second on the list. 7 1 Quote

Blackwater 53393 Posted December 9, 2025 Posted December 9, 2025 I got a thousand rounds of new .45 Colt TOP BRASS the other day! Top Brass doesn’t make it anymore and I was lucky enough to find someone who had some and was willing to part with it!! You talk about smiling!!! 2 Quote
Alpo Posted December 9, 2025 Posted December 9, 2025 Anybody have trouble priming new starline brass? I was priming some 32 ACP. The only primers I've been able to find was Unix?. Something like that. And I thought maybe they were a little oversized was the reason I was having such a difficulty priming. I finally gave up and ran the entire 400 rounds through my primer pocket swagger, and the difficulty went away. Then I bought 500 rounds of 32 long and I was having the same problem. But this wasn't Unix, this was Winchester. I haven't swaged these, but I think I'm going to have to. And it wasn't just 32 small pockets. I bought some 41 mag which uses large primer and had the same problem. Again, it was Unix primers, but still. They are very tight. This is the first Star line brass I have bought in more than 10 years. I never had this problem before. And I just wondered if anyone else was having the problem. Or if they just didn't like me. 1 Quote
Abilene Slim SASS 81783 Posted December 9, 2025 Posted December 9, 2025 I’ve not had any problems with their C45S, .44-40 or .38SP. Quote
Eyesa Horg Posted December 9, 2025 Posted December 9, 2025 The only issue I've had is with .32 S&W and Remington primers. I used a Lee hand primer and it was all I could do to get them completely seated. I honestly expected the handle to snap!! Tried a few used 9mm cases too and had the same issue. At the time all the rest of my small primers were Federal magnum, so didn't try them. Quote

In fact, that's the only new pistol brass I've ever bought. Bought plenty of cleaned, once fired lots off of gunbroker though. Quote
Blackwater 53393 Posted December 9, 2025 Posted December 9, 2025 A friend and I bought a thousand rounds of Top Brass .45 Colt when I first started shootin’ SASS over twenty years ago. I still have a couple hundred rounds of that original batch that’s been reloaded, literally, dozens of times. The remainder of it has wandered away at various lost brass matches and from regular losses due to unretrieved brass. I don’t recall EVER encountering a split case of my Top Brass. Recently, I was swapping reloading data with Widder and had occasion to compare Top Brass to several other brands. The wall thickness averages .001 to .002 inches thicker than any of those other brands! I actually have to set the die slightly deeper to get the bell on the mouth of the TB brass large enough to not shave lead when I seat my bullets!! I did a lot of searching and begging to find and buy this new batch. Top Brass has discontinued production of .45 Colt brass and even repeated requests have been refused! I expect that I will be shooting cartridges assembled with this most recent acquisition until I am in my early nineties if I’m still around and able! Quote

After reading that I went to their website to see what the deal was. They have shut down. Out of business completely. 1 Quote
Blackwater 53393 Posted December 9, 2025 Posted December 9, 2025 (edited) It’s a shame! They had a TOP QUALITY product! I’m extremely glad to have laid in a good supply! Between what I have loaded already and the remaining 800 brand new cases I have left, I SHOULD be good for a long time! I use a lot of this brand for hotter loads with big jacketed hollow point bullets for purposes other than SASS! But I also load my big match ammo using it. I MAY quit using it in my rifles, especially at “lost brass” matches. Edited December 9, 2025 by Blackwater 53393 1 Quote
Michigan Slim Posted December 9, 2025 Posted December 9, 2025 My daughter, Kaya, asked me once if she could keep a couple pieces of new Starline brass. Said she would look at it when she was sad and it would cheer her up. Lol 3 3 Quote
