When I was young before joining SASS, I purchased a Colt 45 Peacemaker at a gun show

for $400 but later thought I should trade and update to a more modern handgun.

I finally settled on a S&W model 27 for trade. Then a couple years later

I got interested in SASS and to this day regret letting that classic Colt go!

I saw a second generation 4 and 3/4 357 at a pawn shop for $350. I did not buy it because I did not want a 357, and I don't like the four and three quarter inch barrel.

That night it occurred to me that I could have the barrel in the cylinder replaced and have a different chambering.

I was at the pawn shop when it opened the next morning. It had been sold the night before.

The one gun I regret getting rid of was a Colt 1917. It was in .45 acp with moon clips. I sold it to pay for a Colt SAA .I miss that gun, shoulda kept it.

My biggest regret :

Colt Combat Commander Lightweight, satin nickle finish, in 38 Super.

Sold it to pay bills while temporarily unemployed.

Lost it 50 years ago, and I still miss that pistol.

I did the same thing with a 1917 S&W.  Been kicking myself for about 40 years now.

Just after we were married 33 years ago, jobs got cut and we needed to pay rent. I sold my Winchester model 70 in 300 Weatherby that had a Leopold 3x9 and a M1 Garand. I got $500 for the pair. The scope had cost me almost that much.  But when you have to pay for the roof over your head, you do what you have to do. But I still miss that model 70. With my reloads, and from a bench, I could get 1.5 inch groups at 200 yards.

Its a slow and winding road .

There have been so many I can't name them all any more .

Probably the one that sticks with me the most .

Ok I will try to make this story as short as I can .

My Grandfathers best buddy Carl  Bought himself a  new Winchester 94 30-30 and one box of shells , in the fall of 1951 .

Carl fired the gun one time and it was spot on Grandfather said .

They went hunting up north in the U.P of  Michigan .

They had a two week deer camp every year with a group of friends.

Opening morning Carl shot his buck with the 30-30.

Carl had a heart attack and died next to the deer .

Carl's wife put the gun back in its box and put it under her bed for about 43 years .

My Grandfather and I spent many many many years hunting together.

I learned to hunt shoot fish and become a outdoors man from Grandpa .

I have been a gun guy from the time I was 8 years old when Grandpa gave me my very own 410 single shot H&R shotgun.

It was around 1993 or so my Grandfather come to me and said Carl's wife asked him if he wanted or could sell Carl's 30-30 rifle .

She was pretty old and did not want her family to have Carl's gun .

So Grandfather asked me if I wanted it .

I asked how much ?

Grandpa said she wanted 125.00 for it .

I told him yes I wanted the gun .

I got it in the box with the original box of shells with two rounds out of the box gone .

Fast forward to about 2010 or 2011 .

I decided to sell the rifle with only two rounds ever fired threw it with a really Kool story .

I sold it for 1200 dollars to a guy who actually drove down from the Northern part of Michigan.

About 15 mins after he left my house I had sellers regret just because of the history of the rifle and that my Grandfather was long gone .

I called the guy back and told him I made a mistake and would like to buy the gun back from him .

He said no its not for sale .

I actually offered him 2000.00 to bring it back to me and he just kept driving and I never heard from him again .

Regret some times never leaves your heart .

When I talk about selling stuff, my very smart Wife says "It is only money".  Different when I was broke, that, long ago as a young man.  Sympathy!

seems all of us have had hard times once or twice in our lives , as much as we regret the loss of something thgat meant a lot - would we do it differently given the same circumstances ? not me - given the exact same conditions of the time i made the right choice , if there had been an income source easier at that moment yes , i would have worked hours or weeks to fix the situation , but there was nothing at hand at the time - i was already working three jobs , and i was carrying a full load college schedule - a lot of juggling going on with one car and a wife working full time at a bank , life was different back then but i have not forgotten - im happy with my replacements [yes , i did replace almost everything in later life] these are not the 'same' but they are as close as ill ever get in life
