Alpo Posted December 7, 2025 Posted December 7, 2025 I was watching this video clip where the woman was talking about the difference between American English and British English. Specifically that in England they say they put milk in their coffee while in America we say we put cream in it. And an American listening told her we say that because we actually put cream in it. Heavy cream. Whipping cream. That made me wonder. I just drink coffee - no sugar no cream no hazelnut flavoring, no nothing. Coffee. So this question is for people that put cream in their coffee. Not milk, not creamer, and especially not that powdered non-dairy creamer crap. Cream. Do you use light cream? Or heavy cream? Half and half? Because, aside from Irish coffee which uses whipped cream, I'd never thought about putting heavy cream in coffee. Way back when I was young (before I learned to appreciate the flavor of coffee) and put sugar and cream in my coffee, it was milk. And I assumed that if people actually did put cream in, it was light cream. My understanding is that when Germans put cream in their coffee it is not only heavy cream but it has been whipped, and instead of stirring it into their coffee they float it on top. Actually sounds kind of nasty. 2 Quote
WD Farren Posted December 7, 2025 Posted December 7, 2025 Heavy cream, 3 tablespoons. No sugar, no impact on diabetes. 1 Quote
Rev Willy Dunkum, SASS # 61027 Posted December 7, 2025 Posted December 7, 2025 Just black but sometimes will hold the glass sugar container over it till I think my grandpa would say that's enough. (He loved his sugar). Never cream or creamer. 1 Quote
John Kloehr Posted December 7, 2025 Posted December 7, 2025 Half and half for me. Used to drink it black, started to not feel good in the tummy. Also tastes better to me, and better than milk. I'll buy a pint of cream when a store is out of half and half. For any of them, I look for the ones which are just the dairy ingredients, no carrageenan or guar gum or such. 2 Quote

Crooked River Pete, SASS 43485 Posted December 7, 2025 Posted December 7, 2025 When I was little my parents would buy unpasteurized milk. The cream would float to the top. They would siphon the cream off and use it in their coffee. Quote

He lost 140 pounds, I gained 15. One of the major changes was using honey instead of processed sugars. It changes you taste for sweets. Leaving out added salts did as well. Amazing how much of both we eat. Quote
Colorado Coffinmaker Posted December 7, 2025 Posted December 7, 2025 PLUS ONE for Alpo AND Marshal Mo I like my coffee Black and Strong. I really like Coffee for Coffee. My sweetheart, however, likes hers blonde and sweet. She prefers Half-n-Half, although, during the Holliday season, she also likes it with Egg Nog instead of the Half-n-Half. When I was wearing out Motorcycles in Germany, in the Autobahn Rasthouses, the coffee was served up Hot, Very Black and Very STRONG. I were in Heaven!! Never saw my German riding partners put anything in their Coffee. Quote

Forty Rod SASS 3935 Posted December 8, 2025 Posted December 8, 2025 No dairy in my coffee. Had I wanted a milk shake I'd have ordered a milk shake. 1 Quote
Alpo Posted December 8, 2025 Author Posted December 8, 2025 On rare occasions I put Irish cream liqueur in my coffee. It is no longer coffee, but it's pretty damn good. Quote
Subdeacon Joe Posted December 8, 2025 Posted December 8, 2025 I usually use just some sweetener. Sometimes I put in milk. If I have it on hand I'll use heavy cream. How much depends on my mood. Quote

I'm the same way. My mother, until the day she died, could not BELIEVE that I didn't drink the stuff. Side Note: Anybody remember the Gerald McRaney show "Major Dad"? There was a scene where he was talking to the Gunny about their Coffee Mess. He said something like, "We're drinking instant coffee with artificial sweetener and powdered creamer. Why do we bother?" "Tradition Sir." 1 Quote
WD Farren Posted December 8, 2025 Posted December 8, 2025 Being a cardiac bypass patient, I only drink decaf. A whole lot of decaf during the day. When I want an adult milkshake, it is my home made Bailey's. And then the corresponding huge blood sugar spike, so not very frequent anymore. Quote

Likewise. On occasion, when we're at the local coffee shop getting beans, I'll get a super-frappa-latte whatever the day's special is. For those that use powdered creamer, most contain sugar. Best to just not read the ingredients. 1 Quote
