Trailrider #896 Posted December 6, 2025 Posted December 6, 2025 For freight service, streamline trains aren't needed because they don't/can't travel at anywhere near the speeds the Zephyrs and M10000 traveled back in the day. Even passenger trains are generally restricted to no more than 75mph at most. Some of the Zephyrs could hit 110 mph on the 3-track Aurora, Illinois "speedway"! I'm not sure how much protection those Amtrak locomotives that are slopenosed give the crews in the event of a collision, one reason the "bulldog" shaped E and F units replaced the "shovelnose" Zephyrs after some fatal collisions at grade. 2 Quote
Stump Water Posted December 6, 2025 Posted December 6, 2025 I think traveling during the golden age of rail would have been fun. My favorite streamliner is the E6, aka "slant nose". A couple of pics of one of mine. 🙃 2 2 Quote
