IF you had a choice, and not limited to the Springfield TRP or Prodigy, what would be your Christmas wish choice.

I've narrowed mine to the TRP .45 or Prodigy 9mm.      And price is irrelevant.

Thanks

Between those, Prodigy 9mm.  My wrists can't handle much recoil.

But you don't mention your intended use case.  That could change my answer.  I'm looking at a Ruger Alaskan in .454 in Spring for hikes in the woods to deal with 4 legged critters.

Too big...All you need is 22 and a slow friend to walk with you....

Already got:

It likes to "giggle."

Just ordered parts for my  suppressed subsonic 300 BO upper build (the lower is done). I'll get the can after the first of the year. Building it to "giggle" too.

I'll stay with my almost stock (except for Novak 3 dot sights and double diamond walnut grips) Rock Island Arsenal 1911A1 because I know her and she knows me.  No need to change out in mid-stream.

I had (emphasis on had) a Springfield Prodigy and I was vastly underwhelmed.

I did not like the grip module or the fit and finish.

The Prodigy is not a cheap gun - but it feels like one.

And before anyone misjudges me - I am not a Springfield Armory hater; I have had a number of SA products from XD polymers to various 1911's, the EMP and the Prodigy.

I just didn't like the Prodigy...  At all.

If I was looking at a bargain 2011 pistol, I would take a hard look at the BUL Armory pistols or even the Tisas double stacks - I have been very impressed with the Tisas products.

At the Prodigy pricing - I would buy another Stealth Arms Platypus in a heartbeat.

Widder, feel free to call me if you have any questions on the Platypus - I am a fan.

I'd be making the choice in either a Rock Island double stack 1911 in 40 caliber or a Tanfoglio Limited Master also in 40 caliber.  And, yes I know that I'm probably the only one on the planet that still likes 40.

Given your choices I would go with the TRP.

Personally I’d go with the 9mm, cheaper to shoot and less recoil.

Sorry, got to go with the TRP.

I was going to buy a TRP until I handled one.  I found the checkering too sharp.  It was like holding onto a bunch of needles.  I ended up going with the Operator instead.  Much more comfortable to shoot.

Back to the OP question.

I like the look of the TRP  much better than the Prodigy.

I can still handle the 45 ACP so on that shallow basis’ I’d take the TRP.

If I really had a chance to handle them the choice might be more definite.

Shooting them is the real test.

Widder, anytime you want give me one I’d be happy to accept.😁

All day long and twice on Sunday.

Never have I owned two guns so similar in price and purpose so different in execution and quality.

I lost my mind while optioning mine - but a sensible build keeps the cost in line with a new Prodigy.

And I have never fallen in love with a pistol quicker than the first shots on target.

Yeah.  I have no faults with the Prodigy, but the Platypus felt smoother and flatter shooting.

Have you considered a 1911 in Super .38?

Likewise.

Also, I could replace those yooglee grip panels with some of these... 1911 Mammoth Mastodon Ivory Grips

He said, "price is irrelevant".  🙃

Amateurs!  :P  None of the above, I'd much rather have a nitro proofed John Dickson round action 12 gauge..

WHILST browsing, I found the Prodigy 9mm to be "intriguing" but I personally have no use for a 9mm.  I could be easily talked into a .45 TRP inna heartbeat.  I currently have/carry/shoot a Kimber .45

Pssst, Sig 220!

I already have a fair number of 45ACP 1911s and a few months ago a friend was selling a Commander length Prodigy , so I tried it. I bought it . The first four rounds were in one hole, it easily outshot my Les Baer and was just alot of fun to shoot.

@Widder, SASS #59054 What's your use case for this purchase?  Have to admit, Creekers suggestion of the Platypus has me very intrigued.

DEACON:  lI once owned a SIG P220 in 10mm.  I just wasn't crazy about the 'feel'.

All my 1911's are in .45 (super) and 3 of them are set up for 460 Rowland.

I also load for 9mm for my daughters pistol and I prefer not to load up a new round.

DOC:  no special need, just looking for my next toy.   I lean towards the 1911, particularly in .45.

I once owned a TRP in 10mm and sold it to TN Williams.   It was super reliable.  It was also a 6" model.

The TRP's have a great reputation and I don't have one in .45 ACP.

My other 1911's are already set up for .45 SUPER and 460 Rowland.
