Hardpan Curmudgeon SASS #8967 Posted December 5, 2025 Posted December 5, 2025 As I've said so many times over the last few years, every time I think california can't go any faster down that Highway to Hell, CalTrans opens a new express lane. And so it is with AB 1263: Want to order a new set of grips? Sights? Virtually any "accessories...?" Well, do it quickly! This fella tries to soften the impact, but it's like telling a man who loses a leg "look at the bright side! Your shoes will last twice as long!" I'm thinking this may totally end buying any accessories from individuals selling on sites like Gunbroker or Ebay... California residents will face significant new restrictions on ordering gun parts like grips and sights online starting January 1, 2026, due to AB 1263, requiring strict identity/age verification, signed acknowledgment of notices, and matching delivery/ID addresses, leading many out-of-state retailers to stop shipping directly to CA to avoid compliance burdens. Barrels will require purchase through a licensed dealer with a background check, while other accessories will need adult signature and ID verification, making online ordering complex. 1 Quote
John Kloehr Posted December 5, 2025 Posted December 5, 2025 AB 1263 is an anti-ghost-gun measure. One of the philosophies is to avoid making undetectable firearms, which traditionally means not identifiable with metal detectors. OK, I can understand then (but not agree with) making barrels subject to greater scrutiny. But this whole thing is supposedly driven by 3D printing. That basis makes anything like grips and sights irrelevant. Why restrict a part which could otherwise simply be printed? Oh yes, harassing legal firearms owners, there is that. 2 2 Quote
Blackwater 53393 Posted December 6, 2025 Posted December 6, 2025 There will be a huge black market that develops around this legislation!! The criminals already get their firearms from sources outside the legal system! This garbage legislation will simply expand the criminal network AND encourage many otherwise law abiding citizens to resort to less than legal means to obtain their replacement parts and accessories!! 1 Quote

The western states have still not figured this out. By decriminalizing marijuana (step 1), allowing retail sales (step 2), and then taxing the heck out of it (step 3), they created more crime and more illegal selling. Step 3 is the crime enabler, a small 4 cent difference in tax on a pack of cigarettes (legal tobacco) in adjacent states is enough to spawn semi truck loads of illegal trade. For this legislation, the state is trying to stretch the "presumptively lawful regulations on trade" far beyond the regulations the comment referred to. Laws like this could result in testing the entire presumption. 2 Quote
Lawdog Dago Dom Posted December 6, 2025 Posted December 6, 2025 Shoulder holsters will be next because they “encourage “ illegal carrying of handguns. 3 1 1 Quote
