Happy Posted December 4, 2025 Posted December 4, 2025 I only had the chance to meet him once at EOT. He was kind and genuine to a perfect stranger. The only thing we had in common when we met was Cowboy Shooting and for him that was enough. Rest In Peace Jim Bowie. Prayers and condolences to his family and many, many friends. 2 Quote
Billy Boots, # 20282 LTG-Regulator Posted December 4, 2025 Posted December 4, 2025 Sassy Boots told me of this yesterday as we had been following Jim's health. This is such a loss to SASS. May God comfort Cheryl, family, and the many, many friends. RIP Jim Billy & Sassy Boots 3 Quote

Cypress Sun Posted December 4, 2025 Posted December 4, 2025 I was fortunate to have met him once at a state match. Never met him before but it was like talking to an old friend. His equipment still resides in my rifle and shotgun. The cowboy world has lost a true friend of the sport. 2 Quote
Edward R S Canby, SASS#59971 Posted December 4, 2025 Posted December 4, 2025 I took his class on Ruger revolvers once at a SASS convention. I've never seen a Ruger revolver taken apart and reassembled so quickly. I'm sure he could have done so with a single hand in ten minutes. 1 Quote
Go West Posted December 4, 2025 Posted December 4, 2025 Shot with him one year at Winter Range. He also fixed a rifle at another one. A very rare man. Prayers up for family. 4 Quote

Fill Yer Hand Posted December 4, 2025 Posted December 4, 2025 He was one to ride the river with. I have numerous guns of his that have been fantastic and many great phone conversations with. He was a great gunsmith and even better person. He will be sorely missed. 3 Quote
Rattlesnake Slim Posted December 5, 2025 Posted December 5, 2025 He leaves a big hole at EOT, bigger than just his trailer. I have seen him work many times until midnight fixing somebody's gun so they could shoot again the next day. 4 Quote
Tall John Posted December 5, 2025 Posted December 5, 2025 Never met the man but I recently purchased a used SASS 1873 that he slicked and while it has a good bit of “stage rash” it has become my favorite! Godspeed Mr. Bowie! Condolences to all who knew and loved him! 2 Quote
