Alpo Posted Wednesday at 05:52 AM Posted Wednesday at 05:52 AM I was in marching band, not a rock band. I played woodwind, not percussion. So I got no idea what a bass drum porthole is. Apparently it's a hole in the head of the drum, but why? Quote
Rye Miles #13621 Posted Wednesday at 11:11 AM Posted Wednesday at 11:11 AM (edited) It lets the sound out. Rock bands are loud so drummers need to project the bass drum as well as mike it. I played drums in bands for 40 years, I still play but just for myself. Here’s my set. I also have a pillow inside to deaden the boom of the drum. It gives It more of a thud. Notice the hole?
