Alpo Posted December 3 Posted December 3 This happens all the time and TV and movies. Somebody is all alone in their house. Or apartment. Wherever, they're the only one there. They hear a noise in the other room. "Hello? Is anyone there?" Now I'll admit it that on occasion I have been completely alone in my house and I have heard noise in the other room. And I go look. With a gun in my hand I go look. But I don't call out "hello?" If it's a bad person - and if it's not a bad person what the hell is he doing in my house? - is he really going to call back to me and say "it's just me the burglar / murderer/rapist"?? Just always seem so stupid when they do it. And I wonder if anybody would actually do it. 2 Quote
Subdeacon Joe Posted December 3 Posted December 3 You put a name on it. "Yaroslav! Is that you?" Sudden silence and no answer = bad guy. Voice you don't recognize giving an answer = bad guy. Yaroslav's voice yelling back for you to shut your gob and go back to sleep = bad guy, but bad guy on your side. 6 Quote

Chantry Posted December 3 Posted December 3 I'll look at the dog first to see how she is reacting, than I'll probably grab the gun. 3 Quote
Sgt. C.J. Sabre, SASS #46770 Posted December 3 Posted December 3 I had something similar happen last week. I heard a noise coming from a spare bedroom that we use for storage. Dog wasn't interested, but I went to look anyway. It was a bird pecking on the outside of the window. 1 Quote
Cypress Sun Posted December 3 Posted December 3 I only ask if anyone is there if I'm in a horror movie. If I'm in a horror movie with others, we always split up to investigate strange noises. If I'm not in a horror movie, no...why give your position away. 1 Quote
Texas Maverick Posted December 3 Posted December 3 Anyone stupid enough to come into my house day or night uninvited with my 3 dogs around I wouldn't need a gun but will still have one at hand. I would still go investigate a noise just to make sure it isn't something I need to be concerned with. TM 1 Quote
Linn Keller, SASS 27332, BOLD 103 Posted December 3 Posted December 3 Last time someone tried to get into our hacienda without our let-be, some fellow was impolite enough to take a shot at a Sheriff's deputy before rabbiting up our street, yanking on doors, trying to find a place to hide. Our two dogs were at the door, loudly inviting him in for supper. As the main course. Said sorry soul declined their invitation. The only things I said was something like "Good puppy," and "Treat?" (Both dogs got pets and treatskis afterward!) 1 2 Quote
Subdeacon Joe Posted December 3 Posted December 3 One night when I was in my teens I had been to a high school football game. Friends had picked me up, so I had to rely on them to get me home. They wanted to go to a party after the game, so I got home much later than I expected. I don't recall exactly why, but I couldn't get in through the garage as we usually did, but had to go through the front door. As I walked past my parent's bedroom door I heard Dad say quietly. "That you, Joe?" "It's me. Dad." Then I heard the soft "click" of safety on his pistol going back on. 3 Quote
Black Angus McPherson Posted December 3 Posted December 3 Yes, I would ask. I have two kids that no longer live with me but still have keys to the house. They know better than to just walk into the house unannounced, but anyone can get distracted and forgetful. I'm ok if it lets a bad guy know I'm home and where I am. They may run finding out someone is home, or they might COME TO ME. 😈 Angus 1 Quote
