Alpo Posted December 2, 2025 Posted December 2, 2025 I was reading this recipe and I came across this ingredient. 1 (8-oz.) package pasteurized prepared cheese product, cubed I looked at that for a minute, wondering, and then I decided that was probably Velveeta and they didn't want to use that name because that's a registered trademark. Like saying to pour a can of cola soda in your Crock-Pot, instead of saying a can of Coke. Or for that matter, saying to pour that can of cola soda in your slow cooker. Anywho - if it ain't Velveeta, what the heck is it?

It would more like to just say "cola" rather than "cola soda." "Lemon-lime soda makes sense because there are Lemon-lime beverages and syrups on the market. But, for your question, yes, it's Velveeta or one of several other brands. I don't recall the brand we get from the Food Bank, but it's just like Velveeta. Can be used to make a delightful Chocolate Fudge.

Standard snack food was corn chips and cheese dip made from a block of Velveeta and a can of Rotel. Man that stuff was goooood... and it's probably still in my system.

There are also non-coke colas. I always have some "Old English" spread. Great for cracker snacks when I'm in a hurry, or just plain lazy. They used to have pimento, and a few others (pineapple?), but I haven't seen them on the shelves in years...sadly. Just looked them up and they have a whole bunch of flavors. Guess I'll order one of each. BTW, they last almost forever if refrigerated.

Subdeacon Joe Posted December 3, 2025 Posted December 3, 2025 If I'm making any sort of cheese sauce. I like to start it with some "pasteurized prepared cheese product" to act as a melting agent for other cheeses. It's especially good at making sure cheddar doesn't break.
watab kid Posted December 3, 2025 Posted December 3, 2025 yes it is - ive pretty much avoided processed products to the bets of my agility , im not sayin im always eatin healthy but i try - lrys me indulge other things that arent so healthy with less guilt , i like my cigars and whiskey a little bit and beer some too
