Bison Bud Posted November 27, 2025 Posted November 27, 2025 It seems as though I can't go to a doctor's office anymore without having to electronically sign documents on their signature pad and it kind of bugs me. Yeah, they will give me a printed copy of what I signed, but how do I know that this electronic signature can't be used elsewhere and without my knowledge? I'd much rather sign the hard copy, which lets me know what I am actually signing before doing so, but they get pretty testy when I ask to do so. Their whole system is apparently set up to function this way and I'm not sure that this isn't inviting fraud or some other misuse. Geese, my medical records have been hacked on several occasions already, what if these criminal types get a hold of our electronic signatures? Frankly, I'm not sure why more folks don't object to this, but it sure seems to be commonly accepted. Am I just an old grump or does anyone else out there think this signature pad thing is a bad idea? 1 Quote

Trailrider #896 Posted November 27, 2025 Posted November 27, 2025 The way the "signatures" come out, I doubt anyone could use them on paper documents. Hate the darned things! 1 Quote

Pat Riot Posted November 27, 2025 Posted November 27, 2025 When I sign on one of those I purposely mess up my signature to where if someone tried to use it at my bank or elsewhere it wouldn’t pass muster with my signature on file. 1 1 Quote
Bison Bud Posted November 28, 2025 Author Posted November 28, 2025 I guess the popular consensus is to just scribble something down to serve as a signature, but looks nothing like your real name. As mentioned above, this should still serve as a legal signature, but reproducing it elsewhere would probably have little or no value. I guess I can live with that, but I'd still rather sign the actual form. I guess that's progress, like it or not! 2 Quote
Subdeacon Joe Posted November 28, 2025 Posted November 28, 2025 I don't worry about it. With so many medical groups, financial institution, real estate groups, etc. using electronic storage now, there's no point. Think security in the off-site storage can't be breached? How often do we read of some big organization, including government agencies, being breached? Hell's bells, just after the the Bruen decision was handed down, the CA DOJ "accidently" left the door open to all the information on CCW applications (accidental according to an independent investigation by a law firm that the CA DOJ regularly uses, and which the senior partners all make huge donations to the ruling party in California). 1 Quote
